I dont know what it is, the Olds combustion chambers have very little quench, shorter stroke compared to the Chevrolet 350. The Olds has a more stable valve train but not as adjustable though in stock form. I had fulcrums wear out too.
In other words in pure stock form and being equal, HEI, 9:1 compression, stock heads, 4 barrel cast iron intake and iron exhaust manifolds, quadrajet, etc, I would think that the Chevrolet would outperform the Olds. Slight margin but still outperform it. I just dont correlate the Olds with performance but, they do it somehow.
Maybe CARCRAFT COULD DO A OLDS VS CHEVY PROGRESSIVE BUILDUP, HINT HINT HINT!!!!!!!!!!!!

olds vs chevy would be good. if they were cast iron heads from the 68-72 and same compression ratio the olds would take it down. i no olds ppl would agree the 350 heads back in thoughs days worked good.

stroke it. eagle makes a nice cast crank esp made to fit the 350 mains but with the 3,75 stroke. stock 350 only 3,48 stroke, 6" rods, B&M 144 blower nice. good luck man

You're probably talking about the Diesel block. Check out the Carcraft article "The other 350's". This talks about the BOP 350 motors.

people always say that an Olds is a good motor but the heads flow like poo, well to tell you the truth, most SBO heads out flow chevy heads, most olds heads flow around 220-230, chevys 882's flow about 206, vortec heads are at 233 at .600 lift. Oldsmobile 350 also has a terrific rod/stroke ratio
