This all really about how much cheaper it is to do one engine instead of another and of course GM will win. 350s are a dime a dozen and so are there aftermarket parts. if more people have them that lowers the price and enlarges the availability. I have a 340 the bigger price doesn't scare me because I know how it will perform when I get it done and swapped in. Rigged no, biased a little yes. if they used the same size heads, cam, headers........ disregarding price then it would be a better test of an engine. GMs are cheaper, and I dont' want to have the mainstream.

a 3500 stall is totally streetable-no question. If you don't think so I think you have never driven one. Sure temps might get a little hotter but for a $100 you can get a trans cooler and high capacity pan. I bet the ford would have made comparable power with a bigger cam . The mopar really has the best potential to make power in my opinon.

Wow, this thread's come back from the dead.
One thing to remember is that a "3500 stall" converter will slip more during cruise (unless it's a lock-up type converter), reducing fuel mileage. That's not inconsequential when "weak tea" unleaded is nearing $4.00/gallon. One good way to visualize the increased inefficiency is recognizing that the heat flowing into the trans cooler and high capacity pan is power transferred into the atmosphere instead of the driveshaft.
Just something to think about (and one of the reasons I prefer a clutch over a torque converter)
