My '65 Rambler didn't have a generator but it did have an alternator with a voltage regulator. When my voltage regulator went bad and I couldn't find a replacement I swapped in a GM style one-wire "self exciting" alternator. As per the instructions of the old guy that sold it to me, I simply ran a wire from the output of the alternator to the positive side of the battery. That was about 8 years ago and it has always worked. I just simply left all the voltage regulator wires hanging, not hooked up to anything. The dummy light didn't come on like I was afraid it would. I just had to grind the housing of the alternator to fit the bracket. I am currently restoring my Rambler. Chek it out at: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/726781 You can see the wire going to the battery terminal in the last picture.
