does anyone know where you can get some stock type, i.e. not real expensive, disk brakes to swap for drums and also how hard of a project that is? would also like to have new spindles with them.

Everything I could find costs two arms and a leg.  They only leave you a leg so you can use it to get spindles. I did find on E-bay some <$300 used original stuff that could be rebuilt for a probably less than $100 assuming the spindle is in workable shape (most likely is).  Good Luck.

Granada stuff is probably the cheapest way to do it. youll need the spindles, all the brake parts (calipers, rotors, flex hoses, blah blah), outer tie rod ends and a proportioning valve if you want to keep the same master cylinder. these arent too expensive on Ebay, but parts are heavy so shipping probably will be. all you really need are the spindles, rotors and other stuff will probably be replaced anyway. so unless you really need the core deposits back, you wont need those that bad. The Granada front sway bar i believe is also a cheap upgrade over the Mustang one too. just be sure you get the proper sway bar mounting brackets off of the Granada too.

if you want the original setup, 67s used an oddball 4 piston caliper which is expensive nowadays. youll also need new spindles, brake parts, and a proportioning valve (unless you score the proper distribution block and lines). You will be better off going with the proper disc brake master cylinder too.

if you want original parts, but slightly cheaper, consider using the 68/9 disc brake stuff. they have simpler and cheaper calipers, and i think the rotors are easier to get ahold of too.

Try this guy on ebay   http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-1965-Mustang-GT-2-2-front-disc-brake-Granada_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33564QQihZ012QQitemZ220055127772QQrdZ1

A few people on www.vintage-mustang.com are using his kits. What's nice as it's been said, big savings on shipping of parts you'd be dumping such as worn out rotors. GM calipers are pretty cheap on ebay and www.rockauto.com as well. A big benefit of using a kit such as this vs later Mustang or Granada, swapping spindles are the costs saved in tie rod ends to fit the spindles, front end alignment and tool rentals if you don't have the needed one. A big savings in hidden costs! In addition, a kit such as Scarebirds can be done in your driveway with regular hand tools in a day ready to drive when your done.
