Don't talk to me about Mercedes engines, I had my own business working on the pile of craps for about 8 years, but no lie I have taken heads off of 1970's, 1980's and 1990's V8 mercedes engines with 150,000 to 200,000 miles on them and they still had the hone marks in the cylinders.  If you look at the new ford 4.6 and 5.4 motors they are very simular to the old Benz V8's that were made in the late 60's to the late 90's these engines are more reliable than any other engine on the planet. And the E55 has 470 reliable horsepower and 516 foot pound of torque, far more than the cobra does. Do you think that cobra motor is going to last 200,000 miles with out a rebuild.

Yes, I am sure about that.  Not fastest like top end, look at my post.  Fastest 1/4 mile car.  I mean to say quickest.  Viper cant touch it.  Corvette cant touch it, close, but close only counts in horseshoes, grenades and nuclear warheads.    No, not a diesel mechanic, I do upholstery for a living.  By the way, I dont have a big mouth.  I only talk about things when I know what I'm talking about.

On the Mercedes E55:

An impressive SUPERCHARGED, INTERCOOLED car to be sure.

But the Cobra is essentially in the same ballpark in horsepower efficiency:

Car             HP/L

03 Cobra  84.78261
AMG 5.585.27273

Not statistically significant.  And considering that the Cobra is half a ton lighter and probably underrated for power output (not to mention less than half the price of an AMG Mercedes), the Cobra shines as a great value.

"Don't talk to me about Mercedes engines, I had my own business working on the pile of craps for about 8 years, "

My condolences....

At twice the price of an American made Cobra, I'll take the Cobra, do some very small tweaks, I do mean very small, and make close to 600 hp.  This has been done without ever taking the heads and intake off the motor.  All electronics and tuning my friend.  Which makes the itty bitty 281 incher even more impressive.  And you'd still have about $30000 left over to buy new wheels, suspension, whatever, maybe even buy a GT for the missus to drive.  The dollar to performance ratio just isnt there for a 75000 dollar Brand G pseudo performance family sedan.

What the *** are you talking about, a Mercury Marauder only has 302 HP in a 4500lb car. That car won't even do a 14 second quarter mile. Your lame. Research before you post. And a Marauder is just a copy of the Impala.

Except that the Impala had to make do with only a piddly 260 horsepower . . . not to mention that it didn't even have buckets or a floor shifter until nearly the end.  R.I.P. SSham-oo!

Also Benz was making 700+ HP out of a 4.5 liter V8, and that was naturally aspirated. Lets see you make that much power out of a 4.6 naturally aspirated. Any thing you can do to a ford motor you can do to another motor. Like I said show me a fast ford and I'll show you an even faster Chevy, there is always someone faster then you, even John Force loses to Chevy powered cars. And none of us have a car that is faster than John Force's.

Also the reason there is a mustang only class in drag racing, is cause if they were racing against Chevy's and Mopar's they would lose every time. Did I just say mopar, well it's better than saying ford.

All in all ford sucked up until a couple of years ago, when they pulled there heads out of there asses.

mullet deal again, well i say that ford loving diesel mechanics like yourself have the biggest mullets of any of us around here, my god unfortunately i know some of your kind, ford will never get off the cobra will they, know a ford lover up here with a 521 stroker in a Shelby Cobra kit, built the motor and he dropped the pan and re-torqued the rod bolts after stretching them after driving it on the road 5 miles, only a diesel mechanic, only a ford

Sure im only 15, sure ive only been turning wrenches for a couple of years, but i did stay at a holiday inn express last night

LMAO, this post is classic.  Now all the sudden it turned into a Ford vs. Mercedes discussion.

In any case, find me a fast Chevy and I'll find you a faster Ford and an even Faster Mopar, taht line goes every way buddy.  But when you get down to it, keep in mind the fact that top fuel cars, even the ones with Chevy logos on them, have absolutely no Chevy parts, and guess what?  THeir engines are all based off of the CHRYSLER HEMI DESIGN, no Chevy big blocks in that class.

And if it will make you feel any better ####, I've seen a few carbureted DOHC 4.6s making power in the 700 HP range N/A.

I'd like to see that why don't you post some links to these 700 HP 4.6's, and they can't be using NOS.

Notice, I said "saw", as in watched, observed something taking place, etc. Of course, it wasn't as delivered, but by looking at it, you ouldn't tell.  There was an identical twin to it running 12.40s.  These cars looked like they did when bought them.  Copies of Impalas?  Hardly.  These cars look much better than the silverfish shaped Imp.  Apparently run a but better as well.  I do research quite a bit, but as I said, I saw this run.  So, read the post thoroughly before  jumping back in for more, Sparky....and you said I was lame, LMAO @ TubbyCamaro......

A 9 inch ford rear axle is just a rip off of the 50s Oldsmobile rear . Up to the early seventies , olds was the axle of choice in drag racing . Most extra heavy duty 9 in housings use the stronger Olds housing ends /axle bearings .

I heard that BLOPAR's Nascar head was an SB2 copy .

Sure the SB2 head is complex . How come GM really spanked the fords with the old inline valve turbo slant plug , bow tie , 23 degree Pontiac and 18 degree heads ?Ford had canted valve cleveland heads , a gift from GM in 1963 , they had to deliver 4 engines to ford , so BIG BILL would ok the mystery motor to run that year , then 5 years later , the 429 and 351 appear with the same heads that GM had in 63 .

EVERY Nascar winston cup car uses a GENERAL MOTORS Saginaw 800 power steering box ( as well as most 70s lincolns , AMCs , Rolls Royces , Dodge trucks up to a couple of years ago )

I think GM is on the eve of winning another factory championship for CHEVROLET .

Ford and Chrysler cheat their asses off week in and week out . Look at Ryan Newmans " amazing " fuel milage every week , oh , Roger Penske is like chairman of the board of ISC , track owning division of Nascar . Lets take a bet they don't look at the 12 car as much as they look at the 8 car .

Ford 4 ever , sure , even the Red Sox and the Cubs are getting close to the World Series

READ FLAT RATE TECH . COM , find out the REAL truth about the Ford Motor Company .

one thing i hate when people talk about top-fuel, a hemi only out performs the semi-hemi when you stick a blower on it (told by NHRA pro stock, big block chevy domination)

you judge by age again, i hate it when people do that cause they dont have any idea themselves, i cant believe you dont think you dont need to measure rod bolt stretch, by what that shows youve never built anything to go above 3500 RPM in your life, like im inexperienced, my god i thought they measured rod bolt stretch on diesels? but i guess im wrong, your below diesel mechanic in my book, it dont get much lower
