our 70 camaro is in neeed of a master cylinder, i got one but its a little different compared to the factory one. as far as i know, and i might be wrong but isnt there only two styles of master cylinders for this Chevrolet.the factory one has two bleeder screws and a square cap-top. and the new one does not have bleeder screws, and has a round edge at the rear of the clyinder. To me i would like to have the factory style clyinder. will the new clyinder fit, or should i go and get the factory style one.......

TO 70_camaroZ28: It is best to spend the extra money to be on the safe side and put correct master cylinder on. You cant afford to put your life or others in jeopardy. THE MASTER CYLINDER YOU HAVE NOW MAY WORK JUST FINE. IT IS NOT WORTH THE RISK TO SAVE A FEW BUCKS. I dont mean to be gruff or stern. I have been there with failed brakes before resulting in minor injury.Best of luck. Carfulmechanic out.

I don't know what the freak out is about, either the new cylinder will work reliably or it won't work at all. Meaning if there is no brake pedal pressure sitting in the driveway in park (after the brakes are bled) then simply not driving it will keep from injuring or killing any one. Get a solid feeling brake pedal in the drive way it'll work great for you as well as any master cylinder with a proper rebuild (good seal). The removal of bleeder screw on the master cylinder is a design change made by GM in the 70's. It was originally intended on speeding up the bleeding process but in reality it did not so it was eliminated. The only things that really matter are where the brake pedal rod (or booster if you have one) goes into the master cylinder is properly adjusted (meaning same depth) and that the brake line fittings are the same.
