Hey all. I'm new here and already i have a few questions. I own an '89 Caprice 9C1 with the 350. I was wondering is this a good bottom end to work with? I heard and seen evidence of it being a roller-cam motor. I thought just simply building another stock 350 but with vortec heads and a different cam, although i don't know what kind and lift all the jazz. Anyway, I want more grunt, plain and simple.

i wish i had that motor, yeah its a roller block im pretty sure of it, use stock roller lifters and spider buy a cam from comp, pull a set of good vortech's from a junkyard and your big time cruising!, if you want to stroke it, id pull a crank from a factory 400 small block, have a machine shop grind down the mains to 350 size, and buy a plate to put a 2 piece rear main seal into a 1 piece if your on a budget, that stroking will give some serious grunt but it isnt going to help mileage either, if your not a on budget just buy a new crank, steel shouldnt be neede if you dont plan on going above 6000

If you deside to stroke it you will also need new pistons, because of the difference in the compression height.
By the time you buy the crank and have it turned you can buy a 383 crank brand new that already has 350 mains.
Try looking at www.speedomotive.com. You can buy a 383 crank cheap and it can take upto 500hp's. You can even buy one with a one peice rear seal.
If you deside to go with the 383 be sure to check clearances on the block and buy on aftermarket oil pan that has clearances for stroker cranks.
Although if you wanna stay with the bottom you have and have it checked you can still make excellent power with a 350 with a roller cam. If you wanna go with vortec heads have the valve guides machined down to accept higher lift springs. No sense putting a bigger cam and better heads if you can't spin past 5,000.
There is lots of things I can get into but I don't have all day. Good luck!
