I have '65 Rambler 770 Classic wagon. It has the 232 I-6 and borg-warner automatic trans. I have had the transmission rebuilt and it is starting to slip again after 4-5 years. I don't mind the 6 cylinder power because it's my cruiser and not my track vehicle but i do not want to have that tranny rebuilt again and not know how long it will last this time.
Long story short...
I want to put a nice small block chevy/th350 combo in it. I have spare 283 and tranny just sitting around. I don't want to tick off any AMC purists, but i would like to have the dependability/parts availability SBC power offers.
Does anyone know of somebody that has performed this swap. I would like to see pictures and/or get motor mount measurements to do this. Thanks

You could look for a more modern AMC auto to put in. Any V8 transmission's bellhousing should bolt in, which allows Borg Warners, plus Chryslers 707 & 927 trannies to bolt up when you have the right bell. However, I don't know the year the 6 was changed to share a V8 bell, so you may need a more modern I-6 to perform this. Just don't put a Chevy in.

I'm not sure if they make an adapter for your aplication but I think the companie is McLeod that makes that universal trans adapter. Most magazines covered it when the six speed band wagon got rolling. Also if your not woried about performance so much early powerglides have a steel Body/bell housing that can be easily modified to almost any aplication.
