hey gib, your 15, hit the books a little more about the history of muscle cars and then come talk to me. The heads on a 429 were never to large they were built for the street racer in mind that would throw an intake and headers on it. And it's really sad to here that you would enjoy a car show with nothin but chevy engines. I seen a pickup the other day with a really nice looking flathead ford in it. Sure it isn't the fast truck in town, but you know what it was nice to see something different under the hood. Your 15 and have no idea what this hobby is all about, go buy a honda and rice it up with all your friends. I'm sure there is a honda head out there with enough bolts on it for yah. It may take more money but a ford 351 can make just as much hp as a chevy. I have seen articles of 1000 hp plus engines and these engines were never just chevy there were fords and mopars. ohh yah and even though i am a ford guy a stock 440 mopar would eat an L88 for luch in something like a 69 barracuda. Put your imapala against a pro 5.0 car and see you Big L88 run through the lights after the Ford runs a 6.40 @ 218mph. And if you say these are race prepped car and such, they are full bodied door slammer, which some have been known to cruise around during cruise nights. WIERD ford is kinda good...I don't even know why i am talking to someone who doesn't even have his license yet.

STOCK 440! TAKE A L88, that is insult to every muscle car owner ever, COPO L88's were randomly tested at 635 Horse, stock 440's werent plain and simple, and you dont act much more than 15, get a little more maturity and stop blaming everything on age, like age matters, besides like you know anything anyway especially if your a ford guy because where i live, ford lovers=diesel mechanics

Sure im only 15, sure ive only been turning wrenches for a couple of years, but i did stay at a holiday inn express last night |

Hey gib, randomly tested eh show me a dyno chart. The copo's while very fast weren't any faster then any of the special order 426's and a stock 440 was in some cases quicker then the 426 hemi in stock form. How exactly is my immaturity showing in my messages? your the little 15 year old that has to have the fastest car on the block. It isn't alway about going fast. Think about the hobby as a whole do you really belive that it would be as fun if everyone ran chevy's? Side oiler fords, 6 barrel mopars, 454 ls6 chevy's. i could go on for hours talking about all the special little packages the big three put out during the sixties. Hell even american motors had some decent sheet metal on the road back then. SC-Rambler's were pretty different with that mail box on the hood but thats still cooler, in my opinion than any thing being shipped here from over the pond. Man, put your pride on hold for a second and admit that ford isn't that bad. Rememeber those awesome Thunderbolt cars from 64? Everyone who knows anything about this hobby doesn't say that any brand is totally better then all the others. While there heart may belong to one specific brand they admire all sheet metal that made the horsepower wars of the late sixties an amazing time in automotive history. Ford engines were put into probably one of the badest cars ever know, the Shelby Cobra. The most recognizable car of the sixties was probably the dodge daytona or the plymouth superbird, and what Baldwin Motion did for camaro's just about makes me wanna cry with joy. I know that most of these words will be lost on you, but man you have to love this hobby because of what it's made up off, not just because you love chevy. If you can't admit that all four american company's built amazing cars during the sixties then your not a car crafter, your just chevy crafter.

Well said, man. If it makes power, it's cool, no matter whose badge is on it.

I don't know about all you guys but the only thing that me and my car friends emphasize is that it is all detroit muscle. I am only 22 and I have jumped into my first project of restoring a 1973 Dodge Challenger with a 340. I have friends with Chevys, Fords (my brother) and other mopars. I personally do not like the chevy 350 because they are a dime a dozen. Hell they made them for thirty years, so of course there will be a ton of aftermarket stuff for them at cheaper prices. I have a 340 and get good stuff for that costs an average of 20% more or doesn't exist. They only made the 340 engine for 5 years. so as far as GMs the only engine worth building, think about this how many times have you lost to a Ford or a mopar or AMX even? If it has happened, than you found an engine of another make with as much or more potential.
BTW: when my 340 is done I will be looking for those narrow-minded people who believe that their car company is the best.

Just curious, but where were the 440's sometimes superior to the hemis? Just looking for info here, dont get on your soapbox on me. And I think that Mopar engines are pretty cool. Take the 360. From reading Car Craft, I found out that they have a stock 18* intake valve, have shaft rocker arms for stability, and have connecting rods in excess of 6 inches. Combined with a 3.58(i think) stroke, that is pretty wicked in my book, especially in stock form. Add to that the fact that externally the RB looks very very similar to the B blocks, no one will now the exact displacment of your mill. A friend of mine who is a diehard Mopar man, says that while Mopar sheetmetal work wasn't the best, engines are what they knew better than anyone else. And I love the 350 as well. That is what is in my 66 truck. Just becasue it is a 30 doesn't mean it is a 260hp garage special. They can rip your head off in an instant if built right, like anything. Personally, of the SBC line, I love the 302, the 327, and the 400/406(or 383 if i were to be cheap). Very nice.

I hear yah on that one joeqekko, and to skynyrdfan in stock form the 440 was a much nicer engine to live with on the street cause it's idle quality was a little bit better and it was just a little bit better for day to day transport and in stock form it ran the same numbers as a 426 hemi did in the same car. However, if you start to bolt on aftermarket parts (even just a carb) the hemi's would responded a great deal better and made much more horsepower with the same modifications. Jib when i was your age i thought the exact same way you did, "it has to be the fastest" and while i still need to feel one hell of a kick in the pants when i open up the throttle i also like to get noticed for nice paint and an awesome stance. Plus if it looks nice you may get a girl or two to notice yah aswell. Now i'm not saying i'm in this hobby for girls, but if you don't like car shows, and you don't care what the car looks like then your not enjoying this hobby for all that it has to offer.

i strongly believe that you dont need a 40,000 car to get a girl's attention, how do you think ricers get girls, females arent dumb they can figure usually if they have 20 grand on a new honda and then modify it they have some cash

HAHAHAHAHAHA I'm talking about cool girls that like originality. Girls aren't why i am into this hobby anyway, it's the cars. If I wanted a stupid ditsy girl i would buy a honda and put a fart can on it. But i would rather a vehicle that doesn't sound like a chain saw. I should shoe horn a small block engine form an american company into the front of a honda one day, and see people reactions. i bet i would get shot froma "blinged" out "thug". hahaha

You don't need 40,000.00 dollars to get good paint and a sweet stance and a good engine. You just need to read car craft and do it all yourself. Nothing beats an evening in the garage with a six pack and a beautiful muscle car to work on.

MOPAR OR NO CAR. Did you see the Horsepower TV test of engines from various camps? All were rebuilt to stock specs with addition of 30 overbore to cleanup block. All engines beat their horsepower ratings;some by a little;some by a lot. Point is this. A 426 hemi mopar rated at 425 horses made over 700 horses REBUILT TO STOCK SPECS. Lets see your chevy do that.

and the tunnel port ford came in 2nd.
You guys are forgeting about some other not so well known engines the s-code 390s were rated at 335hp, and AMC had some sick cars too.
Ya'll need to grow up and respect it for making power!
'89 Mustang 5.0L...It may be ugly but I'll show you the taillights with the drop of the hammer.

If you use just a little bit of your chevy addled neurons, think of this, why are there so many chevy parts made? bigger,more...whatever, there are so many cheap parts because they break down so much! look on the threads its all about broken chevys needing the latest upgrade, just to keep up with the rest of the market.thats why once upon a day all the parts interchanged,so when you broke down AGAIN you could find another broken chevy and hopefully find the part on that engine that wasnt broke. The heartbeat of america, whatever, its because it was your heart racing cause your motor just hiccupped again, and you know its on its way out.chevy is for the newbee rodder, cause more mature hot rodders drive fords.ps ive owned 5 chevys, and 3 of them sucked, only my 1/2 ton 4 by w/ a rebuilt 350 was worth any thing, for a year and a half with lots of intensive care.Fords forever!
