While not considered a "car" movie, Aloha Bobby and Rose has one bad ass Camaro in it.

A few more films for consideration: Cherry 2000-Driving thru a futuristic wasteland in a first-gen Mustang in search of a replacement for a robot wife. Kind of like "The Road Warrior" written by Kerouhac. Be on the look out for a young Lawrence Fishburne. The Wraith-Charlie Sheen stars as the title character who gets killed by a gang and returns from the dead to takre revenge one person at a time. Despite all the flashy rides, my favorite car in the whole thing was the ratty old Barracuda driven by two guys who could have easily stared in those new Dodge truck commercials. Also, if you liked "Duel", also consider "Maximum Overdrive", "Joy Ride", "The Car" The main car looks suspiciously like the new Chrysler 300, but dont take my word for it: www.frontiermodels.co.uk/images/products/CAR1.jpg And of course, "Christine".

Christine was pretty decent. The blue Charger and the Fury were pretty cool. In the book the Charger was a Duster and the Fury was a 4 door.

Dirty Mary & Crazy Larry is not only the best car chase movie ever but perhaps the greatest movie in film history, IMO, with The Car a close 2nd...... Lots of cars
If you have a 50-75 American car for sale let me know

My favorite is the first Mad Max... (but if you watch it, make sure you watch the new DVD release with the original Australian voices/soundtrack... the cheesy dubbed voices in the first USA release really took alot away from the films impact. )
Other notables are; American Graffitti, Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry, and Thunder Road (Dig the 50 Ford with the 312 and 3 deuces!!)
Worth a look: the movie "Hot Rod" (1979?) Check out the Hemi-powered Willys vs. the Olds Cutlass.. not bad!

You guys named all of my favorites except one:
There was a made-for-TV movie around 1980 called Rebel of the Road that had a lot of pretty hard-core gearhead stuff. The plot centered around a guy who wrecked his '65 Plymouth, pulled the Hemi out of it and put it into a primered '39 Willys to race arch villain Grant Goodeve (the oldest son on Eight is Enough) in his orange '69 442. Oh yeah, he steals Grant's girlfriend, too. The movie had flaws, like a '70s AMC cop car with a Hemi, but it's a lot more credible than the Elvis/Frankie Avalon type of car movies. Lots of drag racing in it.

D'oh!!! You're right. I have an old VHS from when I taped it off TV in the early '80s. It was called Rebel of the Road then. I oughtta break it out and watch it if I can find it. I haven't seen it in years.

I have a lot of favorite gearhead movies...Thunder Road, Cannonball (with Carodine), Gumball Rally, the original Gone in 60 Seconds, Junkman, Christine, American Graffiti, More American Graffiti, Mad Max, Road Warriors, Hot Rod, but my top favorite still has to be TwoLane Blacktop. Something about the street racing back then that turns my crank. By the way, The Car was a Lincoln Town Car, customized by George Barris. I had forgotten about that one. Anybody remember a film starring Ron Howard called Eat My Dust? Seems like it came out sometime after Graffiti.
