Or this one I bet we have all heard: "Yeah, this car has so much power if you mash the gas at 60 MPH in high gear the rear tires smoke!" Yeah, right!

Yes, ive heard that one many times.
My girlfriends' friend has a 93 Grand Prix. Im not sure about the year, but he says it has the 3800 V-6 in it. Supposedly it is an ok performance engine, but he claims it runs 13.2 in the quarter with nothing but an aftermarket cold air intake system. Is he just blowin air out of his A$$, or is it possible? I highly doubt it.

Maybe 13.2 1/8 mile... From what i've read the supercharged ones run somewhere in the 15's depending on the year. So, he's full of it big time. Mitch "I'm a Mean Machine, Drinking Gasoline and Honey you can make my motor run"-Guns and Roses

There are three kind of ways men learn.
1. Show them.
2. Tell them.
3. Let them pee on the electric fence for themselves.

I had 68 rebel. Before i bought the car,i nearly backed out. because when i opened the hood,I noticed the carb was sitting side ways,If i remember correctly the distributor was in front of motor with gm style set up and the motor looked sort of like ford motor and the body resembled older roadrunners and belvederes.I was inexperienced as a mechanic.I actually thought someone had put together this car from several different cars. Man,was i stupid or ignorant. I called my cousin .He confirmed to me that american motors corporation was a different manufacturer than the rest and that the car was real from factory.I did not know better due to inexperience.I bought the car for 200.00. It ran awesome.I drove car 6 months and sold it for 300.00 bucks.I nearly passed up a good deal because i thought some was trying to cheat me. I was passing judgement on someone else because of inexperience. PS. I out ran 2 county deputies in 1981 before selling car. It was one of 3 top best running cars i ever had. A guy I work with came over with his wife one night. While sitting out back around a camp fire with many other friends someone ask me about the black marks I left as a calling card in front of a friends house (319 feet). Then his wife said she could beat them and could also beat me at the drag strip with her brand new Pontiac GT (stock). I ask her why she thouhgt that and she said because her car was brand new and has no miles on it thats why. My car is a 430h.p. 2nd gen camaro with 4000 miles on it. She was so sure that a newer car is just faster than anything else I had her ready to race title for title. But her husband steps in and told her no. I then took her for a ride and she is still confused why my car is faster than her "new" GT.

some of the best (worst) b.s. stories ive heard came from my dad. he used to have a 70's ltd 2 w/ a 400, and shot 2 pistons through the hood. not likely? next he built a "monster" 460 that would smoke a 427 vette with a huge nitrous kit. my personal favorite is the pontiac that came out of a chevelle that is in his chevy 4x4, but he never changed to a pontiac transmission. good thing im not crazy enough to tell people things like this!

You want to talk idiocricy, let me tell you guys a real god one here. My good friend bough a 76 K-10 Chevy with a 350, THM-350, 4x4, with 4.11 at the rear. The guy that sold, macguyverized a 600-CFM Edelbrock 1406 carb. Left the choke disconncted, hooked the vacuum advance for the distributor linked to the vacuum line for the transmission. He had put an Edelbrock Performer-RPM intake, with a Accel distributor from AutoZone. My friend wants to buld it for mud running, so he figured if he puts the Performer RPM camshaft, a set of 2.02/1.60 heads that are shaved .040 or something like that. I know they are shaved to the max tolerance. All that with 40 in mud tires!!! He also plans on stroking it to a 383, and installing a 2500 stall converter. He brags how he is gonna have 400+ horespower and thinks that he is gonna get through a mud pit!!! OMG I almost pee myself, when I visualize his stall converter in the mud. He is gonna hear a snap/crunch, and after his transmission falls out, he'll be towing it home on a flatbed.

My story is about one night stuck in traffic on I-40 in Nashville TN.
The guy on the CB was telling about his "factory" 454 Camaro. He was talking about how it was turbcharged, supercharged, and had a 5 speed transmission. He rattled off all these performance things he'd done, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Finally, I asked him if he was running nitrous...his reponse; "No...but I do have noss"

This is one of the best ones I have heard yet a friend of mine brings his friend by my house to get a price on a rebuild becuase the last guy that worked on the engine dropped a bolt into the engine when he changed intakes and told the guy that owned the engine that when he starts the engine it will blow the bolt out of the exhuast.

". . . when he starts the engine it will blow the bolt out of the exhuast"
And it might have . . . (along with a few chunks of valve and piston and a big cloud of smoke . . . .)

when i worked at an engine rebuilder decades ago.,. the boss... 2nd generation owner.. told me that the 6 inch H beam rod that i had in my hand could not be a 6 inch rod... chevy only made 5.7 inch rods...
he also told me that the wear dimples in the ends of the sunnen dial bore gauge master setting micrometers master spacers did not make any differnce... (the sunnen rep did...) .004 off............
when the cog belt on the sunnen CK10 power hone stripped.. he swore up and down that the vega timing belt that was one tooth longer would throw off the machine..
and the best from that shop.... i found out all the torque wrenches were out of calibration... and just plain old worn out... so i bought a torque wrench tester.. the one with the dial on the front.. and mounted it to a post in the building area... and showed them how to use it..... later that day... they unscrewed it .. and threw it at me... told me it was no good... every torque wrench they tryed on it tested differnt... it must be wrong... we have had these torque wrenches for years... we know they are correct... i quit the next day... there was no saving them...

dang man thats just down right scary! Im starting to doubt the machine shop i took my buick 455 block to, because its been 7 months and it still isn't finished, and all they need to do is f'in balance the rotating assembly. Even worse, I went to a party last weekend and i saw the two guys that work there, and i overheard that the owner is in vegas right now, and one of the guys that works there is obviously a raging drunk judging by the way he acted at the party, Now that i've heard your story im ready to drive over to the shop and take it as is, and do it the right way!!!
