Here in LA County they past a law last summer that the Police can take your car if they catch you racing. They sell them at auction. I thought it would be cool to pick up a car some guy spent 50 grand on for about one tenth that. Then resell them on Ebay.

This year they want to pass a law to impound the cars of those who are just watching the races.

There has been street racing in the San Fernando Valley since they plowed under the orange trees and laid down streets. The cops have been trying to stop the kids racing ever since. They still haven't figured out that if they just build one drag strip there, and have races every Friday and Saturday night; the street racing would drop dramatically. Hell, all the streets are wide and straight and go on for miles. Plenty of street-light to street-light fun available there.

I'm sure it would help tracks need a way to let you line up against people you want to run though instead of people jockying for positions though, thats so anoying when your crawling forward and someone has a bunch of friends standing there so they can cut across to run thier buddy.

Sacramento Raceway has a "grudge night" a few times a year. I believe they use a form which list the car numbers of who you want to race and the officials line them up. These grudge nights cost more than the Weds night street car races. There are less cars and the people I know that went to these were able to make a dozen passes against who they want. They finish a race and go right back around to the stage lanes.

There was even some under the table betting going on between drivers and friends. This was "Officially" not allowed.

Cool part was the cops would show up with their personal cars and race anyone who wants to take them on.

Street racing problems has declined because Sac Raceway has some sort of race every weekend and every weds night from March to late October. Weds nite races cost about $15. Grudge nites were about $40. About 200 -250 cars show up on Weds and about 50 to 100 cars on Grudge nites.

The grudge night thing sounds cool, those laws suck and unfortunatly alot of that cali bs filters out to the rest of the county, like non smoking cities.  What ever happened to freedom?  This post on HR's sight is fairly intresting.  I'm glad I read some of thos pit stop posts, I was going to switch back to my power glide for a few little events but I read Ethel killed Freds posts on transmissions so I'll stick with the th 350, thats a problem with changing out a lot of things at once is you don't know wich made the most effect may try my single plane and holley with the th 350 next week or two, plan on running for my birth day.

I'm not sure what you are running, but my experience that medium weight (3000 lbs)street cars perform better with the th350. 'Glides are better for high winding lighter cars (2400-2800 lbs) or heavier cars with major horsepower (Over 800 hp). Glides gear ratio is 1.76 in first and 1:1 in second.

A th350 has 2.76 first, 1.76 sec, 1:1 third. So putting the glide back in will be like starting out in secnd. If you have a average car (400 hp, 3.50 reargear, 3400 lbs) the glide will will be a step back unless you run 4000 rpm stall and 4.11 minimum rear gear.

I agree, I had a few experiences myself street racing. as far as the distance thing goes, get this- the nearest track to me is 140 miles & it`s only 1/16th mile believe it or not. it was put  inside the front stech of astock car track. They race Saterday nights so we get Sunday nights.  THen its another 140 miles home & work Monday. good thing we only have 12 events a year. Can`t have it any other way though. Can`t stop racing & watched too many guys die to street race again. Call me a wimp,  six death were too many.
