I know its a taboo subject, but street racing is a part of the culture. Does anyone here street race?

of course. i used to meet up with people at our local mall where groups of teens/men/cars would hang in the parking lot. because everyone had their own group, it was only natural for each group to try to outdo each other in whatever way they were capable of. some groups had the girls, some groups had the fast cars. i wasnt a part of the group that had the girls unfortunately. at that time, we would just walk around the parking lot and intentionally talk trash on peoples cars just to get them to race. it worked darn good too. then after the race, win or lose, most of the time all was forgiven and friends were made.

now i see on t.v. where these races are organized and set up just like a real dragstrip where theres rows of cars waiting to race and crowds of people lining both sides of the street as thought they were human crash barriers. dont these kids know if you set it up to look like a dragstrip(except the human crash barriers) the law will take notice?

i see a day coming where cars will have governers on them that limit their speed. actually, im surprised it hasnt happened yet. and i can hear the argument now>>why allow a car to do over 100mph when the speed limit is 65 or 70? but then where will the gov make up that money theyre losing cuz they arent fining people for not going slow enough?

And heres what went on last year-

Xmas Reunion, if you have to ask you were not invited....

Went off without a hitch in an undisclosed location in So Cal. The parking lot was full of trailered cars as well as street driven cars. A lot of Mustang vs Lightning's. A couple Honda vs fwd Domestic, that both were actually quick. An 83 Mustang Conv. vs a 71 Nova. A Small Block powered 74 260Z vs a Small Block Ford 68 Mustang. A beautiful, high dollar, Big Block Chevy powered, Tunnel Rammed, Nitrous fed 68 Camaro in an inclosed trailer vs a Big Block Chevy, single nitrous fed 10.5 tire 72 Nova (both claiming not to be that fast, but the parachutes on the back of each car kinda gave it away, leaving you to wonder what their definition of fast was to them) on an open trailer. A trailered, tubbed, single carbed BBC, 468 claimed, nitrous disconnected, parachute packing Chevelle (the nitrous disconnect claim was thoroughly checked on both cars) vs another clean trailered BBC, 427 claimed (nobody believed him, noticing high cubic dollars sitting between the fenders) single carbed, nitrous disconnected 67 Camaro. A high dollar trailered Acura vs a trailered SBC 69 Nova. A street driven Buick GN vs A street driven, SBC LS1, 2000 Camaro. All cars were on slicks, even the street driven ones. A pre arranged 10" car tire Kawisaki vs a no show Hayabusa. The most interesting was a bunch of mini bikes that showed up, never seen them before, but these things were really serious little mini bikes. How serious? Well, one of those mini bikes gave a Ford Taurus (with the Yamaha engine V6 instead of the Ford V6 from the factory) a car length head start and beat him by @ two cars, that mini bike had to have been going over 80 mph, LOL. Winning purses ranged from $50 to $12,000. A couple of cops came and visited the event, but arrived too late to enjoy any of the reunion's festive activities. The cops were persistent, showing up 3 times, even after we moved the event to different locations. On the fourth visit, they snuck in, and were all gathering together to give us a surprise visit. All 20 of them, in 10 squad cars, evenly divided between both sides of the event. We ruined their surprise. One car stayed behind, not by choice, but to load up his trailer and unwittingly became our ambassador of good will and welcomed our uninvited guest. They were nice enough to give him an invitation to give to the rest of us-They wished us a Merry Christmas, and if we came back, they were going to bring more of their coworkers with them on their next visit to the event. They were also going to personally invite all of us to come over to their work establishment for a nice, cold, bagged, turkey sandwich Christmas dinner, compliments of the city DA. Our lucky ambassador, who stayed behind, ended up thanking them very much and wished them a Merry Christmas also and said he would definitely relay the generous invitation bestowed on him. Thus, putting an end to the evening's festivities. I think they were upset for not being invited, and the cat and mouse chase that pursued. A lot of races were interrupted, due to moving the event to different locations. Other than my feet, legs, knees, and my aching back hurting from watching so much belly aching arguments before the line ups were figured out (a lot of which were not able to finish their challenges that day, but will be continued to later date TBA. More than likely it will settled at the HangOvers, so is not to be interrupted.) I got a chance to see a lot of old faces, some of whom I have not seen in over 20 years. I had a really good time...

Yep.  Usually only against imports.  Had a week-kneed stock motor when i first got the car.  Still whipped up on civics though.  I'm making 320 horse now instead of 180 though, so things will change.  Especially after the dart heads.

My Elco isn't ready for any raceing, and I'm too much of an amateur with the Manual on my Taurus SHO to beat on any ricers...

how do you get a good start with a manual anyway?

Its like racing with a cycle, learn to ride the fine line of slipping the clutch and slipping the tires ever so slightly. Practice dude, practice.

If a responce is an admission of guilt I'm not admitting to anything, but up untill my wife got stationed in Colorado it was all good unfortunatly my cam is not very altitude friendly, wich has resulted in one horrible fire two years ago that I'm almost recovered from.  No damage to me just our bank account.  Out of curiosity what are a 320horse Chevelles chances against a 260 horse civic, I don't know how much those civics weigh but the guy is persistant and I need cash.

Well a Chevelle is alot heavier than a ricer civic. You might want to invest in a 150 Hp jug just to make sure your covered.

Yeah I was a little concerened since he seemed so excited to run. it's a b18 conversion with a greddy turbo and a 100 shot.  I'll keep an eye open for a used bottle and plate syestem.  Thanks

That Honda sounds quick.  You probably know how quick your Chevelle is compared to other cars.  Can you beat a mid 12 second machine?  The honda might be quicker than that if it is dialed in.

My best run has been a 12.97 but my wife has objections to me going to the track.  So its been a while, I,ve since downsized my intake and carb wich have improved the lower end alot but I'm giving up alot up top.  I also switched the power glide to a 350 for fuel economy but I still have the other parts plus spare gaskets in my garage, plenty of time and no cash.  The honda seems quick and he has been buy my house about three times to see if I'm intrested.  I think hes fudging the #'s though cause HRM said a b18 puts out 215 and with the turbo plus a hundred shot it should be more than 260, but maybe its dialed in all wrong.
