Less than a mile from me is a farm with old cars everywhere in the weeds, in the woods, and in the barns. The owner of the farm is a crazy guy who will shoot at tresspassers. Even his barn is cool, it has one of the original, if not the original hay presses in it. I heard there is an old milk truck full of Flathead's in the back. You can kind of see a late sixties Torino with some sort of shaker hood scoop from the road and a earlier Torino near it. I'm sure they are rusted into the dirt. I am tempted to hire a plane to fly over the farm and see what is hidden out of view, but I'd be pissed if some did that to my junk.

Well I have a good story that was 20+ years in the making. It all started when my dad followed a man home who was in a lemans blue '69 RS. He came back a couple of years later and found it parked behind the house. Well about every year or so he'd make a routine stop by the mans house to see if he'd sell it, but the man never accepted an offer. Last january the man finally asked how much my dad would offer but my dad told him to come up with a price that would make him happy. He stopped by last july and offered the man $2000 for it and he said sure. My dad ended up with an original owner, lemans blue 1969 rs camaro. The day after my dad got me an original owner 1964 el'camino, with original paint and a corvette 283 with an M-22. Were also looking into a 1966 buick gs which we offered $2500. Its a such a nice car. Its an all original car.

I hate to see cars like that. Off the freeway i can see a 68 firebird( my dream car) just rotting away in this guy's backyard. I tried to get ahold of him but he never returned any of my notes. I finally got another car( 71 Olds 442) so I gave up on the bird. But it still hurts me to see it rotting there.

This site makes me sick. I went to carsinbarns.com and they must have made it just to make me cry. I am a huge Mopar fan and to see these rare cars just turning into dust...They have pictures of the infamous wing cars just sitting on flat tires and rusting away.

yeah, as soon as I can get one of my friends to let me borrow a digital camera, I'm going to send in some photos of all the cars around here rotting away.

I know of an old 66 Mustang that has been sitting for at least 25 years. The guy hasn't driven it in all that time.He has never done anything with it, except for putting a big "NOT FOR SALE" sign on it. Never would do anything with it ,but won't sell it either. What a shame for an old car to be left to rot.So many car nuts would have loved to have an old car like that.

I dunno - read my piece on the 67 Cougar. I haven't seen the cars - barns thing, but it's amazing what people get rid of. My Aunt quit driving the Cougar when she hit age 60 and got sick of using the clutch. In the barn ever since. It could have sold fast just for what it was, but she didn't know that. Figuring it was junk, she was getting ready to have it towed on the weekend we were visiting. It only came to my attention when her neighbor came over with his tractor to pull the thing out of the barn for the wrecking guy. I pushed it back into the barn and now it belongs to me. I fell into this one just by being in the right place at the right time. The Coug was one that almost got away. Food for thought.

Lol, hey guys. was just reading the thread here and thought I'd drop a note. For anyone who's interested i build ultra realistic "unrestored" versions of cars.
The backyard beater had always puzzled me. Why did guys give up on these cars? Outdated? Too far gone to fix? Either way, hiding in a backyard somewhere is a treasure for car guys like us. The difference is that the showroom floor has changed a little and the new car smell has turned to old mouse smell.
I own a large collection of diecast models and wanted "unrestored" cars that were realistic looking to display alongside my perfect ones. I bought a few and was disappointed big time. Sloppy work, low level of detail and what detail there is was poorly executed. I decided the only way to change it was to make them myself and from that Back Forty Diecast was born. Ultra realistic models all built around a theme, each one one of a kind. Highly detailed rusting, split seats, rusted through panels, broken lights, greasy looking, cracked paint, parts in cardboard boxes in the trunk, mismatched tires & flat steels with maybe one original if you're lucky!! lol Torn tops, rust through floorboards - the list goes on and on. I build each one as if it were going to join my personal collection so no detail is spared.
If you're interested, i have pics i can send and I'm open to doing request vehicles.
