I think I have one of the best jobs that a gearhead could ever have, I work in a recycling scrap yard. YOu could not believe the stuff people throw away. The coolest part is if I can fit it in the bed of my pickup I can have it for little or nothing. To date I have found a 348 chev, a std bore 400 sb 2 265 sbc one complete from intake to pan, a 427 tall deck chev, my uncle found a 409 and snatched it before I could get to it, sombody brought in a 68 Coronet with a 70000 mile 383. Just a very few of the notable things I have seen in the junk. I am still looking for the holy grail,,, a Hemi,,, Hey it could happen, you never know what people will sell for scrap.

You ever toss engine blocks in your bed for more traction in the snow? That's what I'd do if I had access that kind of stuff. Also, you find any gum? Beer, it's what's for dinner.

Actually, now that you mention it, I've got 2 slant sixes riding in the back of my truck just for traction. I found them on separate occasions behind a hot rod shop in a pile of scrap parts. They're nice and heavy and all I had to do was make sure they don't slide around.

If you get out far enough you would be amazed what is still sitting in rural boneyards. I recently found an old Service truck from a long gone Gas Station with a McCullogh [hope that spelling is correct] supercharged flathead V8, 2 Corvair Monzas that were identical red cars, a 65 aluminum wheeled Pontiac fastback, and most of the stuff was very fixable. The guy who owned it had a 409 63 Biscayne and a few other drivers around that could be bought whole. Old Salvage Yards rule!
And no I did not find any gum, but there are always a few squirrels lurking about.
