Oh yeah, I forgot, if a car doesn't cost $50,000 and run in the 9's (and is considered streetable) then it's junk huh? It's quite easy to spend other peoples money isn't it? It seems there are more people on here who want a spectacle more than they want true Car Crafting tips or build ups. How many people are actually going to go out and build a 10-15,000 drivetrain which replicates what they read in a magazine? And how many people are going to go out and copy a cam change or header install? Yes a blown top fuel engine would be interesting to see how it would blow tranny's and rear ends and twist frames ect, but is that all you guys are looking for? Stand in the sidelines and dare somebody to rev their engine to 8,000 just to watch the carnage at somebody elses expense? That is not a CarCrafter, that's a f%^&ing idiot!!
Unfortunately, many late nights are spent hitting deadlines so people can read about what is built. To throw all that time and effort away just for the sake of a covershot of parts flying would be very discouraging.
And for the record, I don't like demo derby's or "engine blow" contests either! Mindless destruction is permeating the automotive hobby not by car guys(or cargals) but by people who have limited interest in cars and are more interested in the actual destruction of things. Ever see wheelie contests? I thought it would be cool to see a drag car stand up and carry the wheels. But no, the crowds just wanted to see bumpers drag and hope that the guy flips his car over and destroys it. It makes no difference if it's a throw away car or a hemi cuda, as long as destruction happens, they are happy. VERY DISSAPOINTING! And no I won't watch that crap again either.
I can't be the only one that wants and enjoys close competition, performance, and digging deep into an engine for power. I would rather see an article on adjusting toe in on a rear end in a solid axle car like Stockers and Super Stockers do, then seeing the minute difference in ET, than sticking nitrous or whatever on an engine to take the "easy" way to drop ET.
I still maintain it would be cool to build up the six over a long period, documenting each change and see what can be accomplished, knowing the final results will be in the 13-14 sec range. I think it would open eyes that the car gained .08 ET just by indexing the plugs, or .20 by running all synthetic. A homemade windage tray in a six that's only turning 5800 dropped how much ET?? THAT would be interesting! Another Edelbrock head 302 with Barry Grant carb and Wilson intake and of course nitrous went 11.80's....again, yawn! What does that teach? Money is fast? How hard is it to buy a complete package without any thought involved? You want your mustang to go how fast? then buy package "B" it GUARANTEE'S a 12.50 ET. Yeah that took a lot of ingenuity, here's my visa number and I have a XX second car.
Enough of this crap, if they decide to do the "follow the crowd like a sheep" and build a 1,000hp, 6 speed, 1.2G car, then good for the sheep, but I'll pass.

Hey for your information I was never in favour of spending 50,000 + on some cookie cutter. I was stating that since they are going to chuck the 6 anyway and make no mistake it will rot on the floor of their shop until it seizes and is hauled away as junk. I was saying do some things to it as you modify the rest of the drivetrain, which is going to be done as well , and try to show some things for cheap . Like how much nitrous can you put into it before it goes south . Like this mag is known for having a aversion to wrecking things anyway. Affordable street performance is the way to go and maybe if they showed someone else exactly what CAN and more importantly what CANNOT be done with this a few more people might build a six. Better one I-6 die so that others may live . Like what we are saying here matters anyway, that L-200 is long gone.

If a blown 5.4 Lightning motor can fit in an 86 fox body mustang(Project "Frightning" Muscle mUstangs and FAst Fords) it can fit in a 67. Although hood clearance will be disgusting(didnt fit under a 4 inch cowl hood on "Frightning")

So I went back and reread all the post again..then I thought, with all these different idea's, and different costs involved...it must be hard to figure out what to do if your the editor eh? Lol!!
I think they should stick to the "cheap performance" philosophy. Do what they can with the six, then when it's as fast as they can get it, pull it and drop in a stock 460. Then build that one piece at a time and document it. Don't be concerned what the end result will be, (9's on pump gas for example) but rather, enjoy and learn from the build up along the way.
I can't remember the CC story but I think it was "dealers choice" or something like that and different ways to get a 12 sec car. A 68 camaro, I forget the mopar, and a 68 mustang (this was either in the 70's or early 80's. The 68 mustang had a stock 460/c6 in it. Maybe it had a mild cam and 4.11 gears, but anyway went 12.60's on pump gas. Back then that was quick for a true street car owed by a nobody. Yes there were "names" with faster supposedly "street" cars, but all in all they were quick. I liked the story because ANYBODY could go to a junkyard and pull the same marquis 460/c6 and know approximately where their starting point was. Back when CC was a little different I guess....

I like this idea, but I might go with a stock 351 as an intermediate step between straight 6 and 429/460.
