Well there are all types in the car world. I know a few 'ricers' and there are those who appreciate the do it yourself aspect, and there are others that are more concerned with show than go. there are a few Mustangs around here that drive like ass all the time, including one that has every Pep Boys sticker kit known to man on it. ughh... and im a Ford guy.
a friend has an 80 Toyota Celica. Flared fenders, lowered, gutted, shiny blue with a blue flaked sprayed over it. It also has an engine swap with a later EFI Toyota Tacoma, fully reinforced body with all the seams stich welded and its set up for drifing down to the 15x9 Centerlines. oh yeah, he did all the work himself, including the chassis work and engine swap in his driveway. (even has the Ccity of Downey citation to prove it ) i respect that wholly. granted, its not 100% my personal style but its alot better than a Civic with 20s and Nawz.
i also know a guy with an Acura Integra that now looks like ...well, lets just say that it was once confused for a Nissan Silvia with an Integra tail light conversion. its the other way around. it would have probably been cheaper to just buy the damn Nissan in the first place and import it from Japan. oh yeah, its still a stock Acura engine in there with an auto trans. bah!

I wouldn't be calling him an idiot. You're the one who used "your" instead of "you're" twice and "and" instead of "an". Basic grammar rules here.
If you debate with grammer on a car board, you anit got much.
Anyway, the problem with ricers isn't that they choose to work on different kinds of cars. The problem is they make their cars ugly (scenery pollution) drive recklessly on the road, and since they can't really beat us, they egg our cars.
You talk like you represent everyone here, who died and made you king? What makes you think an import can't beat your car? Go to Puerto Rico and see if you can keep up with those guys. So is your car faster then Steven P's Honda?
"Papadakis is one of the most exceptional dragracer to have gotten behind the wheel. Since the late 90’s he’s been turning out wins and records that have taken the sport by storm. The yellow FWD ’01 Civic Coupe he built caught the attention of fans and competitors alike, and he has since moved onto the highly competitive Pro-RWD class. In his first year of racing in this class Papadakis had already placed fourth in points and set a new Honda record of 6.711 seconds at 207.46 miles per hour. With the help of his sponsors, Papadakis hopes to continue his winning record."
About Stephen Papadakis Born in New York City, and raised in Huntington Beach, California, Stephan quenched his thirst for speed on the streets and local tracks throughout California, in his modified unibody Honda Civic. As import performance grew from an underground sub-culture into a mainstream attraction, Stephan grew with it, legitimizing his racing team by developing the first front-wheel-drive, tube-chassis racecar in the U.S. Known as the AEM Drag Civic HB, this vehicle set the standard for the future of sport compact performance by establishing Pro and Outlaw classes, turning in E.T.s and trap speeds that were unheard of (and previously thought unattainable), in front-wheel-drive vehicles.
It is a totally different philosophy. We build our cars to look respectable and go fast reliably. Ricers build all for flashy show, and if they eventually get enough money for performance parts they build their cars to break. Import fours have to rev extremely high even bone stock to make any form of power. Their modifications tend to make the engine rev even higher, and the engine gets thrashed real quick. If you're going to race a four, use an ecotec. It makes more power at lower RPM and responds better to upgrades.
Now I will correct you on motor building- I have a Small Block Chevy that revs 8500 rpms (and had one that went 9500 rpms), and a Big Block Chevy that does the same. The Big Block goes 7.90 in a 1/4 mile over and over again without wasting the motor. Been run 7.9 for two years with no problems.
But please tell me you haven't been so annoyed with the kid who thought he was so cool because he put a massive wing, ground effect lights, and a huge tach on his mom's old corolla. Common, you know these cars are just screaming "punch me in the face because I'm an idiot."
Ugly and annoying cars come in all different makes, models, sizes and colors, not just in imports.

I understand the frustration of seeing someone making generalized statements on a message board but come on now. There are plenty of other magazines , and plenty of other online forums for those people who believe that rice is king. Why not read or visit one of them? Theres a whole world that the import guys can live in and be happy without trying to mule kick their way into our lives.
As I recall , in the case of the second Fast and the Furious movie, the owners of the muscle cars were the bad guys. What is the message behind that? That the guys who drive muscle cars are all a bunch of jerks? Why did they have to even include muscle cars in that movie? If it was a movie about imports, why did they have to go there? So that the kids who watched the movie could get some gratification of some pent up rage or hatred toward those of us who drive muscle cars? Seems logical to me.
It seems to me that the guys who drive imports are the ones that declared war on us, not the other way around.

7000-9000 RPMs are great when you're in the 7s, in fact thats normal. It takes them that many RPMs to drive freeway speeds. Maybe where you're from import guys are different, but around here they are 16 year old gang members and high school dropouts who weld soup cans to their exhaust, put on an Indy car wing, mismatch the paint, then vandalize muscle cars. I could respect a ricer that really put in work on his car, like the one previously mentione (80 Celica or something like that?) I read in Grassroots motorsports magazine for their $2005 challenge the winners dropped a SBC in an 88 RX-7 and went 11 in the quarter. If you've never looked into the GMS challenge I recommend you do so. Basically you have to buy a car and build it on a budget that matches the year (so this year's challenge had a max budget of $2006) and then compete in drag, autocross, and concours. The people who did the best either dropped in an SBC or installed nitrous into a beat up import. I think that's awesome and if all Ricers were like that I would greatly respect them.

To further make my point that the ricers are the ones who have made war on us, and not the other way around, get this.
You would not beleive what I have to go through each and every day driving to work or running errands in my daily driver, a 1972 Dodge Swinger with a slant 6. A lousy, pitiful slant 6.
It seems that at every stoplight theres some kid in a Honda revving his engine at me and staring me down, or pulling in front of me, cutting me off , turning right in front of me, almost causing me to wreck.
They all want to prove something to me, every one of them. For Petes sake, Im just trying to drive somewhere and mind my own business.
I mean, its not a loud car, you can barely hear it, it has steel wheels with the stock hubcaps on it with whitewalls, and a LOUSY SLANT 6
I mean, for crying out loud, ITS A GRANDMA CAR, and it just gets me from point a to point b, but all these kids see is a race car!!!!

Get your head out of your ass. I own imports and domestics both. My import is a SBC powered V8 LUV Truck, and my domistic are; a notch back mustang, 69 Camaro, 68 Camaro, 70 Camaro, and V8 Vega. Here is what we race out here, most of the imports that show up get spanked unless they run V8's on nitrous-
We got the same argument of what is and is not a street race car or what a fair race is. This is a North Cali vs South Cali thing right now. Hope you guys enjoy it-

I am one of those trusting kind of guys. Everybody knows my car will run 9.60's on a good day. What are you comfortable offering. I don't lie , cheat or steal, I just want a fair race. If we race and you embarass me, it will be the last time we race. I want both of us to have to earn the win. I have no clue how fast your car is, so you need to make the offer. I do consider a 10.5W x 33 or 10.5W x 31 a "Big Tire" when its on a big rim and the car is Tubbed. I was told that is what kind of tire you run. I have a 13.50 x 30.0 ET Streets on a 10.0 rim, so you are way ahead of me in tire alone, not to mention a motor that is somewhere between 396 and 800 cubic inches. Mine is a little 406 with 25 year old Brodix Nascar heads.

31X10W ON A 12" RIM PUTS THE SAME PRINT TO THE GROUND AS YOUR E.T'S!..I CANT SEE HOW YOUR THAT OUT GUNNED?..IS YOUR CAR NOT MINI TUBBED ALSO?.. AND JAVELIN I AM ONE OF THOSE GUYS WHO STRONGLY BELIEVES THE STUFF IS A POWER ADDER!, SB ON JUNK VS BB ALL MOTOR..THAT SOUNDS FAIR TO ME!...WE SHOULD JUST WAIT TIL NEXT GATHERING AND TAKE IT FROM THERE!

My car is NOT mini tbbed. It has 30 year old leaf springs with Cal Tracs bars and Rancho shocks. You have a back halved car with a ladder bar or 4 link and a big inch Rat Motor in a lighter car. I don't see how head up is fair no matter what. If alcohol is a power added than somebody needs to make a 26 horsepower nitrous unit and see if anyone buys it, because that is all the alcohol gave me over a single carb on Gasoline. It would be a waste of time for me to race a car like yours, you have me beat from start to finish. How about this. I will run 20% nitro and race you head up, with you on the motor. Nitro IS a power adder thats worth more than 26 friggin HP.

I don't mean to be a dk, but if you are afraid to set out a car like mine then you have no heart, and thats fine with me. You have a scary looking big block car and I have a little small block car. Have fun racing other pro stock looking cars cuz thats all you are gonna get races with.

You give my 9.60 car a fair race and you got it. Everybody knows thats all the faster my car is. If you can only race me heads up then I suggest you have me build your motor next time. LOL
-------------------- Well @3 weeks later the No Cali guys showed up to LACR Street race event and here's what happen:
7/30/2006, 2:07 pm
Our track out in the high desert of Los Angeles, some 70 miles away was hosting a Street Race event, but after three crashes due to dirt and wind, the race was called off, but they contuined in Compton, and was quite and evening, ending @ 4:00 am. 1St race was for $6500, 2nd one was for $3500. King Tom got his fair race and came down from No Cali (San Jose) to get sckooled by the Gypsy's and Mexican Manny still on his winning streek against the Arminians, both races were heads up... Here is what was written on other boards:
quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Turn out was great, unfortunatly, mother nature and the rock quarry kicked our ass!.It doesnt look good out there, the hole is now at the 1/8th mile and the sand gets real bad if the wind blows. The only way Bernie can run is if the wind isnt blowing and we all know how often that is.I sure hope we get at least 1 good street racer night out of this before its over. I just wanna thank all the street racers,10.5 racers and fans that did come out and give it a shot,I really appreciate it! Thanks, Tim --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LACR race was rain checked due to much wind and 3 crashes. But like Gary said, "35th is open for business"
King Tom vs Fonzie= Fonzie
Manny vs Robert= Manny --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here, let me make myself perfectly clear- 'A' holes are not just imports. 'A' holes drive all sorts of cars, you just may run into more of them driving imports, but not all import drivers are 'A' holes either.

FYI i think the new Super Street magazine has an LS1 powered RX7 on the cover. is that still... rice?

I think that's still considered rice, but it's closer to a really good sumo rather than a 70 pound sweat shop worker

I'd say its a tuner, not rice. Rice cars are just plain retarded, tuners you give a little repect to for making a fast car, and I'd have to say thats probably a fast car.

You are an ignorant dumbass. Domestic site or not, people who talk stupid *** like what you spouted here sound too stupid to even know how to breathe. Granted, there are some dumb import people, but they aren't real enthusiasts. Likewise, domestic guys who spout stupid BS like Big BDO303 are the types who should stick with playing with Tonka trucks in the sandbox.

my mistake, it was Sport Compact Car that had it on the cover. (along with a 13b turbo'd RX7 and a Camaro SS for comparison)
The LS1 Mazda was the quickest in the 1/4, but by a negligable margin. something like a 12.41 to a 12.37 seperated the two Mazdas. both got spanked on braking by the relatively stock Camaro (the Mazdas didnt have ABS). still pretty cool to see it done. despite almost identicle horsepower at the wheels, the LS1 powered Mazda had over 50lbs of torque more than the rotary car. always a fun thing

Why are imports so against ABS? In California you can't find any Corolla with ABS except for the XRS edition, whereas on the cheaper cobalt it is standard on everything except for the LS trim, where it is optional but on nearly every car. Just shows how backwards they really are.

well, keep in mind that the last RX7s were built in what? 96? still kinda before ABS was standard on everything.
