i have a 78 camaro and am rebuilding the engine completely and using vortec heads air gap intake and i was told the combination would make about 400 hp and about the same torque so now i was wondering what to do about a transmision. It has a th350 in it but i really want to go with a 5 speed just wondering what a good pick would be. I thought a borg warner t-5 would be alright

A T-5 would be real nice but they werent that strong in the stock form, even the World Class trannies. But since you'll probably re-build the trans anyway, throw some G-Force parts in it and hammer on it for eternity.

a th2004r is direct swap for the th350 you currently have and usually there isn't a need for any modification to the driveshaft. this tranny should withstand your expected power levels. should you modify your engine further for more power (say above 450hp/torque) you probably consider another tranny but for simplicity sake and an o/d 2004r is a pretty good choice.

2004R can handle 900hp. Just ask the Buick guys.
