Ok, I wasn't thinking about the ground pounding sound at a cruise , however I'll take it up a notch with since it's an unlimited budget might as well fit a three position switch, on/off/auto.

I would build my 65 Imp like a old 60s/70s street racer.Rockcruisher/396or427 big block. Some old keystones or slot mags. My camaro would have a 335 tbi v-8 and a fresh paint job.

Unlimited:
I'm a simple guy....

I'd build a tube frame for my '59 VW beetle to hold a supercharged 392 Hemi with a four-speed, and Olds rearend and a straight axle.

Or... I'd build a pro-touring triple-black '77 Lincoln continental four- door  with twin turbos, a six-speed with a GV unit and I'd run it in the Silver State Classic.

The $10Gs:

I'd put some better suspension under my '73 Satellite and add a GV and do the interior. I'd like to do a '70s hi-jacker style that handled. Maybe a Watts-link for the  rear or something.... add wheels and tires, press the gas, and go.

Unlimited budget:
1970 Plymouth Satellite station wagon
BODY MODS
Converted to a two door using the door frames, quarter panels, and fenders from a two door donor.  I would have the fenders, door skins, and tailgate molded from carbon fiber.  I would then have a nose, hood (with air grabber), and wing for a Superbird molded from carbon fiber.  I'd shorten the wing to protrude six inches above the roof, while leaving the adjustability.  I would shave the drip rails and all exterior protrusions.  I would double hinge the hoos so that it could be opened from the front or the rear.   The color would be a Honda motorcycle hue called Asphalt.  The exhaust would exit in front of the rear tires.  I would open up the quarter panel scoops and duct cold air to the rear brakes.
SUSPENSION
I'd integrate the XV Motorsports independent rear suspension setup and the coilover front suspension from Magnum Force.  Brakes would be aluminum discs encompassed by electro magnets utilizing Lenz's Law (extreme braking action causing no heat or friction).  I'd use 18 inch Mopar steel wheels (from a current LX platform police car) and have them widened to 8 inches in the front and 10 inches in the back.
DRIVETRAIN
I'd power it with a 392 Crate Hemi to which I would add twin turbos and a mega chiller setup of my own design.  Transmission would be a T56 beefed up to handle the power level (around 1000hp).
INTERIOR
I would relocate the batteries, the nitrous tanks and the air conditioning compressor to the pit under the rear floor where the third row seat is located.  I'd go with the front seats out of a current Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 and rework them so that the HVAC could be routed through the vented leather.  The dashboard would be replaced with a touch screen LCD display that would be tied into a compact computer tied into ECM with navigation, internet connectivity, and controlling the entertainment system.  The mirrors would be replaced with cameras which would be displayed on the dash screen.  The instruments would be displayed on a HUD on the windshield.  The glass would be replaced with electro-gradient tint (tint that is adjustable via electric current flow).

Just imagine the looks on the sports car guys faces when they get spanked by a land yacht!

$10,000.00 Budget
1970 Plymouth road runner
426 low deck stroker (400 B engine with an offset ground crankshaft), Demon 850 carb, Edelbrock RPM heads, aluminum radiator, electric fans, electric water pump, Accel 300+ ignition and coil, Pistol Grip A833 4 speed transmission, 8 3/4 rear with 3.73 gears, police rally wheels with dog dish hubcaps.  That's where I am now with a tad under a grand invested in it (including the original purchase).  Plans for the future are blue suede paint with gun metal gray stripe, finish the body work and create a custom dash board.
Out of ten thousand, I should have enough left over to build a 77ish GM Monza type car for the One Lap of America.

It was interesting to see that most responses involved current projects. I'm in that camp too. I guess I'm lucky in that I'm pretty thrilled to be working on my project. It's super dorky but I really like the Vega GT I'm in to. I sometimes get into those conversations about what car would you want if money was no object. I actually think it would be my car. LOL

OK unlimited budget: I think I'd do some experimenting with coatings. Maybe ceramics and Teflon on the piston heads and skirts. Ceramic in the chambers. I think I might try to put a 340 Buick crank in a late Rover V8 block with custom forged pistons. I'd probably get the Wildcat Engineering heads based on the Stage II turbo Buick v6 heads. Maybe use a main girdle/dry sump rig a buddy has in Belgium.

On the suspension I'd go fully tubular on the control arms with coilover for track-side adjustability instead of just uppers. I might go with dropped S10 spindles instead of the stock ones I have and some kind of caliper upgrade for better attenuation at the track. Maybe a 4-piston rig, balanced MC with backup reservoirs.

Some things that were expensive I'd do over like the G-force gears for my T5. I got the straight-cut dog-ring gear set. Not at all cheap. Really cool. I saved 40 lbs. swapping from the Saginaw 4 to the T5.

I'd probably go a little heavier on body work too. Add some flares for more rubber on the front and back. Something I can remove and replace if there is damage. Finally no skimping on the gauges. I'm a fan of the Pro-Lite from Autometer.

Something I thought of later. Wheels are really expensive and some really nice 3-piece BBS alloys like 17lbs a piece would be really cool.

GLAD -  unlimited budget ?  hmmmm....      I would have to say I would build a convertible 70 Roadrunner 440+6 clone...    go electronic EFI for the six pack, nitrous,  6-speed T-56, pro touring style, large 4-wheel disc brakes, hydroboost, and all the little trimmings....

Somewhat of my plan for my Charger but on steroids...

Unlimited budget...

'69 El Camino with a lowered-compression R07 Sprint Cup engine, sheet metal intake with a Roots-type blower strapped on, Jerico WC4-4 trans, an enormous fuel cell at the front of the bed feeding E85 for all it's worth, a Winters quick-change, fat and wide Micky Ts on all four corners under radiused wheel arches, basic blue gloss paint, semi-sheen black hood, and my nickname painted above the door in quill.

My only fear would be how hard I would need to drive it in order to match the high from building it.

deburred chambers, piston oil cooler squirters.
smallest xfi comp cams hydrolic roller camshaft.
i like dry sump systems, but hear they're not reliable enough for the street. so a fully baffled wet sumpsystem, tighten oil pump.
ati rattler harmonic balancer.
tnt gapless piston rings, aluminum block with 6 cross bolted mains, nicklesile sleeves.
shaft mounted rockers. belt drive cam drve system.
long runner tpi intake, with oversized plenum to make rpm activated center butterfly's to convert to short runner.( single electronicaly operated intake)
multi point injection, possibly direct injection.
undecided on diesle, gas,or e85. but definatly common pump stuff.
water/meth injection.
jes knock sensor= for e85/gas.
1 coil per cylinder would be awsome.
egt kit per cylinder.
twin ceramic ball bearing turbo's.
thinking t62-1...ceramic coated

full car construction weight 2500lbs wet.
probably 67-69 camaro body style cause their so common and parts are easy to get. but for aero dynamics say a 3rd or 4th gen firebird trans am. gt40's are awsome but drive train limited.
4 wheel disc breaks 13", lightweight, corbon pads+ rotors all four corners.  multple piston calipers. or steel rotors and ceramic pads wichever lasts longer.
cromoly tube frame, and roll cage. one easy to repair if need be.
6 point harnesses, both driver and passanger.
one piece flip up front end.
four headlights. min...
plenty of under hood space for working. removable trans tunnel.
16gal fuel cell, break cooling ducts,
functional spoiler+ground efx.

built in laptop, room for 2 full spare tires, and a decent tool set. plus jaks, and stands.
all four tires same size and back spacing, so they can be rotated.
18" rims. big enough tread thickness 235/60/18 so that pot holes don't wreck my rims/tires.

rack and pinion steering, independant rear would be great but common parts are better.
boost vacume guage in block to tell when rings are wearing out, 4 intake air temp guages, 12 total egt temp guages, fuel pressure guage, fuel level guage, oil pressure guage, oil temp guage+cooler, rear diferential guage+cooler, tranny temp guage+cooler, tach, speedometer, volt guage, water temp guage.

if i had an unlimited budget id just buy a late 20,s early 30,s miller race car like peter depaolo drove.  they say that with rules restrictions imposed in the late 30,s that the formula cars didnt truly match the performance of these cars until the 80,s
