Never directly said , but your whole push and said in several round about ways strewn throughout the different posts that you and I have had this same battle over. However I am willing to concede that you also beleive other things are important as well. There now I have said something nice about you time to wash out my mouth.

Actually I was the only car without anti-lock brakes in this contest. All the other cars DID have anti-lock. (this is John Garner - I had the Mustang).
I don't think I overlooked the brakes (as was said above) but I agree that I was outgunned by the competition in the braking. You can also bet that it will not happen again.

The vette, the 68 camaro, and the corvair had antilocks???? Wow, sorry. Apparently I need to read closer. I like your car, it'll smoke mine for sure, even in braking. Sorry about my carelessness. Good luck with your future affairs.

yes, they all had anti-lock. they were all custom installs (which I am doing now myself).
I recently got a new daily driver - one that has anti-lock brakes (yes, I am old school). I have to admit, they work really really welll. I am really excited about getting my Mustang upgraded. My goal is 60-0 under 120'. That still wouldn't win the contest but it is a huge improvement.

This Is Frank with the 68 Camaro, I do not have antilock brakes, and I'm pretty sure the only cars that did were the 99 Camaro and the AMX. I don't know if that's really John or he's just trying to rile people up, but he saw the rest of the cars w/o abs struggle with lockup. I have video to prove it.

You sure the corvair had anti-lock? the picture in the mag shows the tires smoking to a stop.

First of all congratulations to all of the RSE competitiors who actually made it there and pounded on their cars. It know I made the right decision to work in Mississippi instead of fixing the car but man, seeing the RSE issue really chews me up.
I for one am blown away by the AMX. Had my motor survived Drag Week it would have taken at least a 150 shot of N20 for my car to outrun the AMX, and there was no catching John's Mustang. Without instrumented testing its hard for me to estimate braking distance although my setup was dialed in by Hal Baer himself, but I know I wasn't going to stop 4000#'s shorter than the top two. I wish I'd been there to slug it out and see how it really would have measured up.
As many predicted before these were all tough competitors, its a shame the autocross was rained out as I think it would have changed the top of the final order, the 99 Camaro would have been really tough.
Honestly I would have ranked the engineering a bit differently as the AMX, the 68 Camaro, the Corvair and the Mustang all showed huge amounts of owner effort, imagination and execution. The ride and drive is hard for me to comment on but I think there may have been a bit too much emphasis on modern NVH and not enough on cool factor.
That said, as I read it the best all-round car won. I hope there is a next time!

My mistake - I could have sworn that someone said I was the only one without anti-lock brakes. I know that everyone was talking about anti-locks, I probably confused two different conversations. Now I am even more embarrassed by my braking - lol!
I have been doing a lot of research on anti-lock brakes, and brakes in general. What I have found is that my brakes were just not setup properly. Anti-locks would have helped but my real problem was the overal setup. The more I learn the more I realize I have left to learn - which is also part of the fun.

I think he meant it had a Z06-spec engine.
But plain and simple, the plastic Camaro got smoked at the strip.
And without any genuine Pontiacs in the show, RSE was a bit of a yawner for the Pontiac tribe.

nope, it had Z06 brakes, but i dont think that makes it a Z06 camaro. ya, it didnt do so hot at the strip (I figured 150 shot of nitrous would of gone faster). but it did very well at all the other aspects.
