I noticed under "Barn Cars" Car Craft has posted the Dec. 68 Motor Trend magizeen that has the Breedlove AMX 600 and they are asking for information about the car. I wasn't sure where to post what I know so i'm doing it here.

I currently own the car refered to as (Breedlove AMX 600) that is in the Dec. 68 Motor Trend issue. I have owned the car since I bought it from Craig Breedlove in 1973-74.

A friend of mine (Tom) asked me if I wanted to go look at an AMX with him that he was considering buying. On our way to go look at the 69 AMX he had found I spotted a very dirty red, white and blue something sitting on a used lot (in Hermosa Beach CA.) right next to the sales office. I asked Tom to turn around so we could go see what it was. As I walked up to look at the car a salesman came out of the office and asked if he could help me. I asked him if the AMX sitting next to the building was for sale. He said "yeah, but it belongs to a friend of the owner, hold on and I will get you the guy's phone number.) When he came back out of the office he handed me one of their bussiness cards with the name Graig Breedlove and a phone number writen on the back. Breedlove was working as a realtor at the time. The next day I called him and we made a deal. That day I drove to his office to give him a deposit so he wouldn't sell the car to someone else. The next day I met him at his house in Hermosa Beach and paid him the rest of the money for the car. Hanging in his living room he had a picture of the AMX sitting on the salt flats under the wing of a small plane, a very cool picture!

In the photos that are in the 1968 Motor Trend issue the car was black and gold (I think). (According to Breedlove) after that photo shoot the engine was changed, the car was painted red, white and blue and lettered up with all the sponsors names, and run on the salt flats. He gave me a small plaque that said the car went 176 Or 178 MPH, (?) don't exactly remember.

Being kind of a stupid kid at the time I started driving the car on the street daily. To and from work during the week, to party's on the weekend. I raced anything that pulled up next to me. I was getting pulled over almost every time a cop spotted me. The lettering all over the car was a cop magnet, having no lic. plates on the car didn't help. One weekend I took some rubbing compound and removed all of the lettering from the car hopeing that I might not get pulled over all of the time. That seemed to work well. One of the last times I drove the car got into a race in Redondo Beach with an early Nova. We left the line together a both stood on it, when the Nova hit second gear it lifted the front wheels off the ground and jumped out about half a car length. Right at that time we got a big rear view mirror light show of red and blue lights (not good). There were at least two police cars a couple cars back behind us in traffic. We both got nailed for drag racing.

One day it hit me. (WHAT AM I DOING DRIVING THIS CAR ON THE STREET). I realized the car has some history and I that need to take better care of it, so I bought myself a beeter to drive. Since I have owned the Breedlove AMX it has been kept inside a garage with a car cover on it.

This year (2006) I am going to try to get in contact with Craig Breedlove and see if I can get him to help authenticate the car. If anyone can help me with any suggestions, advise or ideas on how to go about doing that I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks for taking time to read this.

First off, congrats on scoring such a cool car. If you want someone from the mag to read this it would probably be a good idea to post something under the " In the mag " forum with a heading like " I have the BREEDLOVE car " ..... just a thought.

That is probably not a bad idea, I think I will do that when I get the time to. It takes me along time to type things out on the computer. Thanks for the suggestion.

Too bad you didn't decide to 'garage' it before you removed the famous lettering.. Oh well, maybe Breedlove can help put it back the way it was when it was raced on the salt!
At least you didn't do what that knucklehead that owns the American Graffiti 55 Chevy did..
Cool car.
