I just bought a new 350 chevy crate motor and a new balancer. How do you time the motor when instaling the new balancer? When you reinstall the ignition what is then order on it. I know the motor firing order. Im in stalling a edelbrock proformer manifold and 600 cmf carb. Also puting on headers and a cat back exuast. Also a new water pump. and other requried stuff so i dont void warenty. Will i have to get a different fuel pump since i got mine from my old 305 2 barrel motor? Will i have any problems with this?
Thanks alot for your help

Im guessing you mean installing the distibutor, in which case you put the motor to TDC on the compression cycle then mark were the number one wire would go on the dist. housing then turn the rotor back a little (roughly between 1 and 2) so that when its installed it pointing to number one. The fuel pump will work fine but for all the more they cost you might as well get a new one.
Im not real sure what you mean by timing with a new balancer though.

To find top dead center: Pull the #1 plug, put use your finger to plug the hole. rotate engine until compression pops your finger off. The timing mark on the balancer should be "0" on the timing tab. Then follow the previous post to get dist and spark plug wires correct.

If you are useing the timing tabs from the GM crate motor and a balancer that was for your old 305 even though it is new, the marks won't line up. Your balancer is set up to mark behind the waterpump. The timing tabs that GM give you are set to mark on the side of the *** Go to your local parts store and get a balencer for a late 60's to early 70's 350cid. Or you can just swap the timing covers from your 305 and put it on the 350.

Put your engine on top dead center and check where the timing mark is on the balencer as comared to the timing tab. The only reason I am concerned is I ran into this problem on a 1978 el camino I just installed a crate engine in three weeks ago at my shop and had this problem. Went from a factory 305 to a crate 350.
