Id say a switch to a performer intake, with a street demon wih vac secondaries, 1 5/8" headers, full tune up with the best quality parts. 3.42 gears. should be a runner, and extra torque should help if you can keep your foot out of it.

How do you rebuild a steering column or very good reference material of the like. It's my mystery electrical problem. Chevelle, tools are not an issue, although parts may be.

Depends on what is wrong with your existing column. The bearings and shaft can be replaced. It may be cheaper to call ididit or someone like them, and see whats availabe.

Well I'm not sure whats wrong the ignition switch is good but on ocasion it doesnt want to start or stops running when you turn the ignition off and back on it will continue running or if it is trying to start off then back on and it starts. Ive checked all the wires with my multi meter and every thing looks relatively fine the fire wall grommet is relatively worn but no bare skin on the wires. The hazard switch is stuck in the on position so I pulled the flasher box and use hand signals. Flamming river column runs 400 dollars and the original purchase price off the car was only five so if I can't fix it I may find another for the column but well of course I would like to fix it. It's all about the learning curve or lack there of as I usually mee something up once or twice before I get it right. Thanks again, should have a solid tech question once I resolve this.

Do you have the tools to tear down the column? A steering wheel puller and lock plate compressor?
If not, rent them from autozone. You'll want to check the lock cylinder drive tab hole behind the cylinder. Make sure its not wallowed out, if it is get a new column new or used from bone yard. Did you check out the switch itself yet?

The hazard switch no the ignition switch yes. As far as tools I have access to every concievable tool except a frame table and dynomometer. Five military bases in close proximity each with there own craft shop. But the puller and lock plate compressor, I have in my own box. The little part with two ears on it??

He will give you better info than I as I can just regurgitate magazine articles, and hear say. Three months back there or so ther was a whole section dedicated to FE's. I think HRM I'll look. Good luck, try finding the thunder bolt panels to shed some weight would be a great start.
