My neighbor just got back from iraq, he's a young kid whos been watching me build my gto for the last year, he just bought a 65 stang with a junk inline 6 and a three speed.  He wants to do a small block swap maybe a later model 5 liter with a five speed. since im a BOP guy i dont have a lot of advice for him, if there is anyone out there who has done one of these swaps before any advice would be helpful.  he is just starting the build and hasnt even resorced an engine yet we are still looking for the right path to get started on.

thanx for any help

from another young guy i appreciate you helping him at least he didnt want a honda. you may be able to get a 302 out of a similar year truck with a trans for dirt cheap i just scored a 73  f 100 with a running 302 and 3 on the tree for 50bucks and a case of beer the body aint pretty but the drive train seems pretty bullet proof .

The motor mounts for the 5.0 should be the same as the 289,302,351 so get some mounts for a v8 car. Don't know about the tranny though.

If it's a 6 cylinder car, it's probably going to be a 4 lug wheel setup.  I would try and find a v8 car in a junkyard and start swapping.

Hi. Great job on helping keep the rodding going. First, yeah the 5 lug setup is the way to go. 2nd also yoiu need the frame mounts for the motor, and of course brackets, throttle mechanism from the firewall and order the wiring for a v-8. ( for the solenoid etc) And it would be a  great idea to get a V8 radiator, and you might need the trans crossmember for the c4 also, unless you go with a manual trans. Then the C6 is suppose to be the same as a 4 gear. Pailess has the wiring I believe for the newer 5.0 setup..It all fits under the hood too.
