Interesting, but an NHRA Stock Eliminator is hardly streetable. I doubt a stock eliminator cam would last 100 miles on the street because of the radical ramps necessary to achieve big power with "stock" lift.
The 4.6 2-valve cars Mr. FoMoCo lifted from FF&MM were all legit street cars.
Hot Rod ran a 305 SBC v. 302 H.O. Ford shootout about twenty years ago--before TPI and when the Gen III F-body was almost new (I think it was back when Irwindale was still open). It ended with the 305 pitching a rod out of the short block in a losing blaze of glory. Somehow I doubt anyone seriously racing a 305 uses anything remotely similar to a "stock" short block.
To be fair, using big shots or mas-boost on the 4.6 2V Ford requires upgraded pistons and rods. But built short blocks are getting cheaper all the time. Example:
4.6 MODular Short Block |
4.6 MODular |
NEW 4.6 block with forged pistons, prepped rods with SPS bolts and a 6 bolt prepped crankshaft, balanced to racing specifications. NO CORE REQUIRED
