If anyone out there knows alot about AMC's, I have a Question for you. A local Guy is offering a 1974 AMX for sale. I called about it and this is what he told me. The engine runs great (360c.i.) and the tranny was rebuilt about 70 miles ago. He also told me that the interior was imaculate in it. Now for the proiblems. He said that it was an origional 4-speed car but some one took it out and put in the automatic. The paint needs redone and it has a little bit of suface rust on it. Also, the origional rims are lost, but it does have drag lites on it. The speedo and tach don't work as well. He is asking 3500 for it. Is it worth it? I have a '64 Rambler Classic 770 4 door that I would have to sell in order to Buy the AMX. It runs great and has new paint and interior. Is it worth hanging on to more so than the Javlin? If any one can give me any help I would really appreciate it. Thanks. My email is labaird1s@semo.edu

Hi 55ford, the AMX will be worth more in the long run thant the Rambler four door. Granted the Rambler is a nice car, but typically four door and wagons are tough sells. If you wish, you can look at two free online price guides for AMC and Rambler I have under the Shut Up & Drive Lists file on my website; where you will also find tons of Ramblers and AMXs also for sale in various prices which might make your decision easier. A 360/727 (AMC started using the Mopar 727s in 1972 with 360 and 401 applications) btu it is a really good setup. The AMC 360V8 is not a Mopar 360V8, two totally different looking birds. There were 4904 AMXs made in 1974, the last year on the Javelin body. The AMX name however would live on thru Matador (Mexican built VAM Matador AMX's) later Hornet, Concord and finally Spirit to 1980. To see production numbers click on "parts" on my site. Good luck with either product you end up with, and while I like both Rambler and AMX, I would see if you can work out some kind of deal, maybe even a deposit and payments on the car with the seller perhaps.
