I git down to Cali every now and then. But a benny won't even buy the diesel fo my tow rig.
Wow, what kind of MPG does it get? Where are you coming from?The one I use gets 10 MPG loaded, so a benny gets me 1000 miles
They usta have some action down in So Cal, but I heard the heat's on the street. Word?

Itinerary for the most racing possible for out of towners visting the LA area:
Wednesday-LACR-Wednesday night Street drags, good night to get a lot of runs off, hardly any cars.
Thursday-Irwindale-Thursday Nite Thunder-Busy night good traction
Friday-LACR-Friday night drags and test n tune-Busy night a lot of cars
Saturday-Fontana- Street Legal drags-Busy day, whole lot of cars
Sunday**-Los Angeles alley - beat the heat and run away all day. All day racing lots of cars. Hit and run racing, there is a Camera on the track. 6 min window
Monday and Tuesday**-Night racing -SFV run what you brung and make sure to run or lose your car.
**Travel arrangements can be made through LAPD. Room and board included in package deal. Car crushing at no extra charge.

Xmas Reunion, if you have to ask you were not invited....
Went off without a hitch in an undisclosed location in So Cal. The parking lot was full of trailered cars as well as street driven cars. A lot of Mustang vs Lightning's. A couple Honda vs fwd Domestic, that both were actually quick. An 83 Mustang Conv. vs a 71 Nova. A Small Block powered 74 260Z vs a Small Block Ford 68 Mustang. A beautiful, high dollar, Big Block Chevy powered, Tunnel Rammed, Nitrous fed 68 Camaro in an inclosed trailer vs a Big Block Chevy, single nitrous fed 10.5 tire 72 Nova (both claiming not to be that fast, but the parachutes on the back of each car kinda gave it away, leaving you to wonder what their definition of fast was to them) on an open trailer. A trailered, tubbed, single carbed BBC, 468 claimed, nitrous disconnected, parachute packing Chevelle (the nitrous disconnect claim was thoroughly checked on both cars) vs another clean trailered BBC, 427 claimed (nobody believed him, noticing high cubic dollars sitting between the fenders) single carbed, nitrous disconnected 67 Camaro. A high dollar trailered Acura vs a trailered SBC 69 Nova. A street driven Buick GN vs A street driven, SBC LS1, 2000 Camaro. All cars were on slicks, even the street driven ones. A pre arranged 10" car tire Kawisaki vs a no show Hayabusa. The most interesting was a bunch of mini bikes that showed up, never seen them before, but these things were really serious little mini bikes. How serious? Well, one of those mini bikes gave a Ford Taurus (with the Yamaha engine V6 instead of the Ford V6 from the factory) a car length head start and beat him by @ two cars, that mini bike had to have been going over 80 mph, LOL. Winning purses ranged from $50 to $12,000. A couple of cops came and visited the event, but arrived too late to enjoy any of the reunion's festive activities. The cops were persistent, showing up 3 times, even after we moved the event to different locations. On the fourth visit, they snuck in, and were all gathering together to give us a surprise visit. All 20 of them, in 10 squad cars, evenly divided between both sides of the event. We ruined their surprise. One car stayed behind, not by choice, but to load up his trailer and unwittingly became our ambassador of good will and welcomed our uninvited guest. They were nice enough to give him an invitation to give to the rest of us-They wished us a Merry Christmas, and if we came back, they were going to bring more of their coworkers with them on their next visit to the event. They were also going to personally invite all of us to come over to their work establishment for a nice, cold, bagged, turkey sandwich Christmas dinner, compliments of the city DA. Our lucky ambassador, who stayed behind, ended up thanking them very much and wished them a Merry Christmas also and said he would definitely relay the generous invitation bestowed on him. Thus, putting an end to the evening's festivities. I think they were upset for not being invited, and the cat and mouse chase that pursued. A lot of races were interrupted, due to moving the event to different locations. Other than my feet, legs, knees, and my aching back hurting from watching so much belly aching arguments before the line ups were figured out (a lot of which were not able to finish their challenges that day, but will be continued to later date TBA. More than likely it will settled at the HangOvers, so is not to be interrupted.) I got a chance to see a lot of old faces, some of whom I have not seen in over 20 years. I had a really good time...

I was trying to race you at the Burger Palace in Arcadia. Your car was primered gray with a black primered stripe that went all of the way on to the roof. We were talking #### to each other and I said "Do you want to race that toaster oven" I think that is where it started.

Wow, you guys bring back memories. We came out there with a black dullie with a Honda dragbike in the back, towing Yellow 67 SBC Camaro, to race a street bike. Sometimes we had a primered 68 Camaro, (Sammy the painter's car) Chucky Cheese is what they refereed to my friend, boy he hated that name. I use to deliver frozen food to that place. Now here are some old spots from around the same time - Lucky's on Atlantic and Abbott, Winchell's in Compton on Greenleaf and Alondra, Winchells on Florence and Main, Carls Jr. on Avlon and the 91, Scotty's on Whittier Bl, The FRWY on ramp on Manchester Bl., Stonwood Mall in Downey, Jonny's Burgers in Downey, Toys R Us on La Mirada Bl., K Mart on Beach Bl., Scooters on Orangethourpe and Euclid, In n Out on Valleyview and Ball, Angelo's on Beach Bl., AM PM on Carminita and 5 FRWY, Albertson's on Harbor and Imperial Hwy., A&W Root Beer stand in Glendora, Market Street in Riverside, AM PM on Juropia and the 15 FRWY, Hershel's across from the La Puente Mall, AM PM at Sunland and Tuxford, Tommy's on Roscoe and the 405, Denny's 405 and Western, Glendale Speed in Glendale, and can't forget Super Shops on Van Nuys Bl. I know I forgot a lot more. There were a few places in the SFV but I don't remember exactly where, one I think was on DeSoto.

sfv was kevins burgers on weds on reseda bl and then fri nite was kevins on desoto all thru the late 80's up to about '95? also tampa and victory and chatsworth at zelza in that parking lot. those were some fun times. lumber city in the west valley and on sepulveda, glenoaks and peoria, and of course who can forget "the road"

That's it, Kevins burger, I think thats the one, and the one on Zelza, that was a hard one to find for us, but how could you forget that name. Glenoaks and Peoria was were I saw my first street race at @14 years old, a 65'GTO that yank the wheels against a 74' Duster that you could look right through it. Duster won. Yeah "the road", ain't that were Donnie crash his SBC Chevette? We race there and did not know where it was, just knew it was under the frwy by Balboa. Years later we race there again alot and relized we had been there before. One time I remember is when these guys with a trailered small tire Lemans Blue Chevelle came to 91 and Avalon to race, we had a beautifully restored 69 Rally Green small tire Camaro on a trailer. We went to different streets but keeped running into cops, they seggested SF road and so we went @ 30+ miles to race. They had a 633 and we had a high winding 468 (8500 rpms). It was head up and a close race. We were out in front by a fender until it spun the 10" slicks when hit high gear, lost control and almost hit the Chevelle, ended up directly behind the Chevelle when he finally got control of the car. We lost a $1,000 but he saved the car. We wanted to do it again, but on Alemeda, but they did not want to. We ran into them a year later when they were selling their motor at Pomona swap meet. They thought we had a big BBC, and we were suprized to find out the size of their motor. Yeah the 80's and early 90's were fun. My daughter was on my shoulders at that race. At the end of the race the cops showed up and she ask "why are we running from the cops daddy?" I didn't have a good answer and that was the last time I took her, she was four and now she is 14, oh I lied, I forgot I took her and her brothers last year to Compton to see Tank race Todd, two 8 sec bikes.

I can remeber him in Riverside awhile back, trying to get a race with some guy, but the guy was crying about Todd not having a headlight. Well after some serious talking they did indeed race, Todd no helmet, with a mag light in his mouth for a light.Crazy ####!! Gotta love Todd

I have known Todd for 20+ years, and that does not suprize me. Him and another guy named Leon, and myself were trying to by the Honda Dragbike at the same time. All three of us were negotiating to buy this bike, I ended up getting it without knowing about anyone else trying to get until we showed up with it at Angelos. That Honda was the bike me and Chucky Cheeze raced. We got our asses hand to us by the Honda boyz with their street bike. It was also the bike that raced Big Bill with his big tire bike (12 "wide slick). He took off the turbo to race us, it was side by side and we won by a spoke in front of @1500 people on Santa Fe and Del Amo in @ 1985. Big Bill put the turbo back on and want to give 20 bikes from behind, we turn him down, cause his bike went 180 and with that much space would be going 200 mph, and our bike only went @ 128 at Palmdale. Todd rode this bike, Cabbage rode it also. I don't think anybody wore helmets then. Todd was with me when we did a Fox 11 news story last year on street racing that featured Todd in rare form.

I remember that place, on SF road and Sonoma. I use to have a Yellow 13 sec SBC Vega then that I drove it into the ground. Dave at Burbank Speed did the machine work.

I had my same Camaro I drive now back then. It was Primer grey with the same rims. Dave is still doing machine work he did my current motor in my camaro.

Todd....What else can you say.. Yeah, I heard stories about that whole deal back in '85. The good 'ol days. I'm sure when I get up to where you are(no offense) My now stupid stories will be the folklore of the future.It's still amazing some of the stupid #### you guys used to do. 200mph with out a helmet..WOW..LOL..

Yeah, No offense taken, we thought we would live forever. Stupidity was our best friend. Big Bill raced a turbo bug, giving him space on Sand Canyon Rd in Irvine by the old Orange County International Raceway (after OCIR closed). Both the bug and the bike had no headlights, nor were there any street lights. Us as spectators could not see the starting line, and all we saw of Big Bill was a glowing turbo go by, and a few seconds later a dark flash (the bug) went by with its turbo glow from the rear. Today Sand Canyon is all Houses with street lights and signal lights. Big Bills eyes didn't stop tearing the rest of the night. One of the best races I didn't see. LOL

We herd about it the same night, we heard he had died. Next day we heard he was in the hospital, later we heard he was all right. We really never knew what happen just knew he was not dead and the car was history and that it was an ugly crash. When his uncle crash in one of those street car shootouts, I think it was Florida, could have been Memphis, in the early 90's, we heard about it that same day while we were racing in Mexico from people who didn't speak a word of English. We did not believe them, figured they didn't know what they were talking about or they were talking about someone else. When we got home and we found out they were right, amazing how fast news travels.

What did crippled Kevin drive? Cripple Chris lived in Whittier, had a white 67 Camaro. There was also the guy from HRP with the Elephant, a white, I think Belvidere wagon. I think Dennis drove the car.

Do you guys remember a White 10 sec 68 Camaro, some engine builder that work for Don Pruedome built the motor. His buddy had a blue 11 sec 67 SBC Camaro. They raced @ 1977 on Peoria. Lived in Burbank. Do you remember their names?

well my Camaro was/is blue but I bought it in 1978 and I lived in Glendale. used to hang on Glenoaks all the time. didn't have Don build the though unless you want to call me the snake lol

If my memory serves me correctly,I believe the guy you are talking about did work for "The Snake".I believe his last name was Brandt and he was his crewchief,I think,he also built a nice early chevy 11 back then,63 or 4 that was real quick.They used to come up to palmdale to test in the late 70`s when my dad ran Palmdale and I worked there handing out time slips and such.I do know that it ran 9.80`s back then threw the mufflers.We had a good amount of quick cars up in the desert back then,my pop`s used to drag me out to the street races then,hell Palmdale didnt even have a sheriff station back then,just Lancaster,so you could pretty much run all night long.I did get to run Bottle Bob once out at the white bridge(25th street west)and some guy came out to Lancaster one night,h and 30th,with a blue 67 or 68 camaro,I think he worked for Mondello at the time,1985 ish,that car ran hard.To bad more folks wouldnt come up to the desert more back then,must have been related to Lonnie,scared of a little altitude!!. LOL

I think it was Bob Brandt was who built it, but I think this guy bought the car from him or had it built by him. They also hung out with two black Nova's, one had an L88 4spd, and the other 396 auto. These Novas were always seen together. He sold the motor from the Camaro to a guy with a Red 68 who instantly became a terror on the street. The L88 Nova raced a SBC Vega on Peoria, lost control, went up on peoples lawn and drove around the Vega to take the win. This was around the same time as Dave Hickey's 11 sec 4x4, he had a factory LS7. They all went to Burbank High or just recently graduated around this time,1976-79. Can't remember their names for the life of me.

The white 68 camaro from the valley had to be Lee's car it went low 10.'s back in the day. he had a few of them from late 70's to late 80's then he built that white nova that went 9.60 @ 142 at palmdirt in '89, one pass and bernie about ####, it had no cage, not even a bar, sbc on the jug with steel ralleys all white with stock interior. (gotta brag on my old man)...lol.. he was a street racin mo *** Lee still has a bullet in his arm from florence and main, they had a drive by at the street races, cant remember the year, late 70's early 80's.All of the names you mentioned and a few more, how about Larry Dixon Jr for a famous street racer, i remember the night in the valley the cops chased him home in his '55. Steve Johnson who races p/s bike now used to drive a bunch of different bikes and Gary S used to street race and now races with his wife in a NHRA Pro class.I remember steve67 from hanging out at western auto in glendale and around the valleyi had the 62 nova gold/beige color that had a b+m style blower. it was on the cover of hot rod in feb '90.the 65 gto you spoke of was it a black ratty 64?? with some huge tires hanging out the back? that was ron's, Lee used to drive it cuz ron didnt want to get busted. he used to hang with rodney that had the red gremlin and hornet both were bottom 12 sec cars and looked bone stock.

Florence and main, drive bys were common. You would be set up a race and the window would shatter from a stray bullet from @ a block away, sometimes from across the street, amazing more people didn't get shot.The GTO had up and down headlights, and yanked the wheels @2-3 ft. high and @ 60 ft out. The Duster resembled a Pro Gas car, both cars launched hard. They were trailered cars, no exhaust on slicks with a lot of fiberglass. We rode our bicycles and hitched a ride in the back of pickups to get there every weekend after going to Van Nuys, and we were hooked.Another famous name back then was Cory Mac, Top Fuel Mac Attack, he street raced VW's in Orange CountyLee's car, the white 68 Camaro, didn't he race Mark Washington in his white Nova after the Street Machine Nationals, when they held it in Devinshire Downs?

Wow!! Talk about some cool memories. To me the 80's were the best. I raced my nova and my bike's all over the place. Glenoaks was my favorite never lost there tied once (Bo)
I spanked Dixon's 55 at the road in my nova, he still gives me #### about that to this day.
Some guy name bob ownes the car now I think and it just sits. 12yrs.
