Inyokern Drags 1954 - 2005!!! |
Due to new public flying safety requirements imposed on the Inyokern Airport by the Federal Aviation Administration, the Inyokern Dragstrip has cancelled the remainder of the 2005 season and has officially closed its gates. The track personnel are working with the NHRA and other track managers to move the scheduled Junior ET Bracket Finals to another track. Racers who have already registered will be notified as soon as the decision on the new location of the finals is reached. The Inyokern Dragstrip would like to thank all of the racers, fans and volunteers whose support had kept them in business for all of these years. | | | |

I live in Washington State and I can say that at least two tracks have disappeared around here in the last five years. I began my racing involvement at the old Spanaway Speedway, and was raised up there with my Dad and Uncle, then later with my own car along with friends. They were round-de-round stock car races, but racing is racing. The second track that you don't hear of anymore is the Tenino Speedway to the south. I have been tempted to locate it, but nothing markes it on I-5 anymore, and it probably isn't around. Now they are working on Pacific National Raceway where everybody goes to run. It used to be out in the middle of nowhere, but now the "neighbors" have made it so nobody can run there after 9:00 pm even in the dead of summer. They wonder why street racing is a problem, - well duh... Give the people a nice place to run and there will be less of a problem. Places like this strip in CA will never be replaced because environmental laws will make it almost impossible to permit. The environmetal community with cry foul, and the walls will tumble down, and people like me, and my son, and his friends won't have a place to go and run again. In this case it was the FAA - ??? Well, I guess they may have their reasons, but will there be a replacement strip built somewhere else? Probably not. What a shame.
