I know at one time someone was working on putting Chevelle sheetmetal on a new GTO.  it was a "if they built it, this is what it would look like" project.  Does anyone know where to find the pictures?

Apparently they are reworking the grill on that car. I'm glad to hear it. The rest is OK. I don't mind it.

that car was actually in town here, my brother in law stumbled onto it, it was sitting in its trailer in the back of our local gm dealership. apperently the guys with the car was waiting for the owner to come and pick it up or something like that. they wouldn't let him drive it... later I yelled at him for not calling me!

Thats one ugly SOB and I love Chevelles I own two.  I would be embarassed to be seen near it let alone in it.  They really need to fire a large portion of the GM staff, and hire some one with some sense of style.  Thats actually worse than the toyota nova of the 80's.  Probably equiped with technological ignorance like IRS.  Man is GM slipping.

I don't think GM had anything to do with it.  I heard they didn't even let Unique use the Chevelle name for it.

On the other hand, in light of the Aztek, Colorado, Saturn Ion, Chevrolet SSR, Pontiac GTO and others, I suspect if Harley Earl could come back he'd fire a large number of  current GM stylists.

He'd also more than likely give a severe beatdown to whoever thought to use his ghost to fawn all over the Buick Rendevous.

Absolutely!  The big problem was that anybody who would want one of those Buick Azteks . . .  I mean Rendevous wouldn't know Harley Earl from Harley-Davidson.  Ill-conceived, stupid and wrong advertising, IMO.

And who really believes that Tiger Woods would get caught DEAD in any Buick (unless it's a rental car)!  More ad money wasted.

Buick's been slowly spiraling into the crapper ever since they cancelled the Grand National and the RWDs.

She aint pretty, but i'll take her to the prom. I'd really rather see a car like that going down the road than be stuck behind a smoking Honda Civic with a fart can muffler, spinner hubcaps from Wal-mart and a glow in the dark steering wheel......again.

I'm not hard to satisfy, I think they should re-run the original bodies on a modern frame with modern interior, maybe use a fiberglass or composite body, real chrome bumpers.  Maybe run from 64-72 in order, for the 300 deluxe use an LS2 for the Malibu run the LS7 and for the SS run a 502.  Price the 300 delux around 19k the Malibu around 24 and the SS around 30.

How could you see the glow-in-the-dark steering wheel through the neon-illuminated haze?

Of course most Honda driving "tuners" couldn't swing the insurance, must less the monthly tab, for a Holden/GTO/SS, even if they understand the superiority of the "musclecar" concept!

And I suspect the recently announced 425 h.p. Hemi-powered  Dodge Charger SRT-8 will cut significantly into the market for badge-engineered Holdens in the USA.   GM and Ford better get serious about the RWD sedan market before DaimlerChrysler and the Japanese grab all of it.

If GM could afford to put the exclusive, niche-line-built LS7 into a $24,000 car, then the Z06 buyers are going to get hosed badly.

Given the occasional complaints about the mildly retro design of the '05 Mustang, resurrecting the 41-year-old, wholly unaerodynamic '64 Chevelle body and retrofitting it with all of the required safety and emissions band-aids (including larger "bumpable" bumpers) would surely touch off a firestorm of second-guessing.

Perhaps some kit car maker will try it after the supply of original tin is rare and prohibitively expensive.

BTW, I read somewhere that to produce a new '57 Chevrolet Bel Air, using the original designs and materials, would now cost in excess of $50,000.00.  I guess they don't build them like they used to!
