hey i've been reading CC for 18 years now. i like all cars. i never once cared where they were made or "who" made them. i like cars that have been modified for better performance. i don't care what it is. maybe i'm too old, but i don't see where all the hostility comes from.

i understand "buy american" to support our country. when it comes to small companies i do. i have my own political reasons for not supporting bigger companies.

i was about to buy a 69 impala until i found this forum. after reading all the insults and general negativity i actually reconsidered my purchase. i didn't want to be a part of a group that hates another group.

well i stayed away from this place and read all of my old issues of CC, HRM, and PHR. i've decided to buy the car. now i just need to find a website and forum that will help me with modifying this boat.

so post your reasons for hating and maybe some links to other forms that don't have so much negativity.

i have nothing against ricers, im against only "dumb" ricers, and not a insult directly to all you ricers out there but you seem to find a lot of the so called "dumb" ricers, its hard for me to find someone that drivers a ricer that actually knows what is power is because he actually faces the fact that it isnt under his hood, if a muscle car owner is "dumb" too im against him, if i talk to guy who said his LS6 70 Chevelle would pull the front wheels with wide ovals (who which i had) then im against him and hes a dumbass, i have talked to ricers who know a lot maybe they just drive a ricer to be cool or thats what they had the resources to build

Sure im only 15, sure ive only been turning wrenches for a couple of years, but i did stay at a holiday inn express last night

For me, it's never the car, its usually the driver.

So regardless the make, any car can be riced out, including domestics.

Plus the definition of import and domestic is blurred.

Ford, GM, and DC are all global car makers now.

" i didn't want to be a part of a group that hates another group."

Then you obviosuly have never been around too many "ricers".  One of the biggest things to hate about them is the fact that they evers o ignorantly take on the idea that everything American sucks, and they have no problem saying so either, despite having nothing to back this up with.

That and the fact that Japan is, as far as I'm concerned, still an enemy of this Country.

Japan is a country, therefore the Japanese are a nationality, not a race. As such, hating the Japanese cannot be racist. I hate the French, does that mean I hate white people?

I just wanted to point out that Japan and Japanese Americans are two different things.

I also want to know why he feels we are at war with Japan.

I think Monteman pretty much covered it.  yep.  Well, and the fact that they are invading our markets with their poorly made products for which we have no alternatives.

Yeah, and fbodyfanatic got it right about the racism thing.  I have nothing against Asians in general, or Japanese-Americans.  It's the country of Japan taht I don't care for.  To many people misuse the word racism.  Just like he said, hating the French doesn't make either of us racist towards white people...

I don't know about that "poorly made products" comment, but if anyone's the "enemy", it's many of the US labor unions.

In the past, you needed unions.  Today, there are enough labor laws that do what unions do.  Now unions abuse their employers.  Some unions have a symbiotic relationship, while many have a parasitic one, where they will kill the host.  Why do you think a lot of stuff is made overseas?  It's because it's cheaper and some nut turner knows how to earn and appreciate their fair $5 an hour instead of some bitching american saying that they deserve that job for $20 an hour and accuse them of cheap sweatshop labor.

I'm sure you are aware of the new union deals with the Big Three, or now the "Big Two".  But my conclusion was those unions are the ones who were holding back GM and Ford.

Even Germany is taking a hit from unions.  VW and Mercedes Benz quality has gone down, while workers enjoy 30 days of holidays and 37 hours a week.  37 hours?!  They've been dubbed as the laziest workers in the world.

Unions are pretty damn stupid.  The way businesses have to operate these days, you'd have to be a complete moron to not be able to keep your job without a union.

Not really trying to start stuff with import guys but most import guys around hear dont know squat about an engine all they know how to do is 'bolt on' go fast parts most ricers when you ask them about their engine they say they got turbos, nos, heads, and cone filters and all that kind of stuff but you mention oil pump, pistons or manifold and they are lost! Some really know their stuff like my brothers friend owns a CRX he loves chevys to and he actually know the "inards" of an engine and not just bolt on parts.

"Plus the definition of import and domestic is blurred."

In the old days an American (domestic) was a car with a pushrod motor that had large cubes.

And a Import was one that had overhead cam(s), small cubes and multi valves. Looks like ford motors are going the way of the ricer.

"So regardless the make, any car can be riced out, including domestics."

I totally agree, any car can be riced out look at the mustang and all the ricer looking body kits that are avalible for it and how the motor already has overhead cams, soon to have multi valve heads, and variable valve timing. Looks like ford has gone the way of the rice motor. Like I always say if you can't beat'em join 'em. Ford could never really put together a reliable motor, that is not until they started making rice motors.
