i'm getting ready to replace the 350 in my nova with a 383 stroker. i'm buying a long block rated at 385 hp, and 430 ft lbs. here's the build:
9.1:1 compression, Keith Black Pistons 4-bolt mains Line honed and parallel decked 5.7 Rods w/Arp rod bolts, shot peened New Scat cast steel crankshaft Completely balanced Hyd. cam; .443-.465 lifts, 214-224 durations @ .050 Pocked Ported cast iron heads; 2.02-1.6 stainless steel valves Screw in studs, Z-28 springs Hi-volume oil pump w/steel drive shaft New Harmonic Balancer and Flex plate
i'm planning on using my weiand 7546 high rise intake, hei distributor, and all the other accessories from my 350. i have a 600 cfm edelbog on it now, but i plan on replacing it with a 650-750 vacuum secondary at the time of the transplant. i know i'm going to need a 400 flywheel, and i might replace some suspension parts, and bushings while i have it apart. i can rod out my radiator at work, or replace it if need be. my thm350 is rebuilt to stock specs, and it's under warranty, so i cant replace the converter. also, i still have the stock rear end, and monoleaf springs. i will buy a new water pump, and can clean all the other stuff in a hot tank, jet washer, or bead blast it if needed.
i would like to know if there's anything i have overlooked. will i have to port my intake to match the heads? how big of a carb should i use? should i go with roller rocker arms? the motor will be under warranty for 12 months, and i'm probably going to have just under 3 grand into it when i'm done. i work at a shop, and i can do 90% of the labor myself, an can have the rest done at low cost.

You won't need a higher torque convertor with that cam shaft, but a stock rebuild on the trans may have it's work cut out for it with that power. A tranny cooler would help. A mild shift kit from Transgo or B&M would be helpful if it doesn't void the tranny warranty.
If the engine didn't come with roller rockers; I'd leave them off during the warranty period. Any kind of deviations can void the warranty. Make sure you read the warranty very thoroughly after getting the engine. My friend voided the warrant on his rebuilt engine by changing the oil himself.
I doubt the intake will need to matched to the head ports. It could be the other way around.
The increase in torque will be the most fun. Get some motor and a tranny mount from Energy Suspension. Those 383's can pull stockers apart.

The above is good advice,I wouldn't even touch intake ports while under your warranty.Great street torque engine combo. WIEDER

i bought the biggest external trans fluid cooler that i could find at napa. it's about 12"X8", with half inch tubes. i will also replace the motor mounts like you said. i'm probably going to be replacing my back right tire every few months as well.

I would recomend a 600CFM holley vac. secondary with the cam and setup you have 750 would be to much.

do you think a 600 will get it to the advertised power? i agree that 750 might be pushing it, but i have a 650 edelbrock i could rebuild. i'll ask the shop that's building it what setup they used to get that much power.

Hook up vaccum guage to manifold vaccum and tape the readout on your windsheild.Try a 600cfm, at full throttle you should read basically no vaccum,if there isn't any then there's not much restriction. WIEDER
