OK, so we ran two AMC articles in a row and have a third coming up (360 build). Anyone out there have or is thinking of building an AMC? We think they're cool. Let's see 'em.

You'll get NO grief from me when you run articles about AMC.
The reason why: I've had a Mark Donohue Javelin for thirty-four years and haven't seen much in print on AMC till Car Craft stepped up to the plate. It'll be turning 100K on the odometer this summer (and that's with it being "put away" for over 18 years). So, needless to say a rebuild is in the near future. The cars in respectable shape and I've already started looking for hints on re-building the motor, and you've helped a lot in that department with the 390/401 story. And if you’re planning an article on a 360 build....... Way Cool! I've never opened up my 360, but I've read that the Mark Donohue's had 4 bolt mains as part of the package, so I'm a little antsy to see if it's true. In the end, a little more HP is what I'd like to achieve. Being that the car is in original condition, I hope to gain the HP by way of reworking the dogleg heads and a bit more cam. I'd like to include a set of the new beehive valve springs in the mix too, if that's possible. Your articles about them caught my attention, so I’d love to give them a try.
Keep up the good work, and I’ll be watching for your next (and any) AMC article,

Im VERY VERY glad to see more amc coverage! Im 19, and bought my 68 javelin when I was looking for my first classic car to build when I was 16. At the time, I desperately wanted a Nova, but couldnt find anything in my price range. I ended up coming across a cherry 68 javelin, 343, 4 speed, go pack, 3.54:1 posi, disc brakes for sale literally right behind my house. It had been in storage since 1990, and I got one heck of a screamig deal on it. Well since then, Ive gone through it almost entirely (complete repaint, all new chrome, new vinyl top, new interior, new suspension) and I finished the exterior right before my graduation. Since college, Ive saved every extra penny I made and built a 401, VERY similar to the build on the yellow prostreet amx featured in this months issue. Currently the motor is in the car, and should be running within the next few weeks. I have alot of pictures, in various stages of restoration, and will have PLENTY more once its running.

I for one am very happy to see AMC's in your mag, I like to see the build ups and the dyno results, id like to see more hardcore AMC street cars, like some 10second gremlins and hornets.
I have a 74 gremlin with a 500hp dual quad 401, backed by a JW adapted powerglide, full transbrake valve body, solenoid shifter, holley strip annihilator ignition, 9 inch ford rear with a chassis engineering TOP GUN four link suspension and 2x3 backhalf. it took me 7 years to restore/ build the car, started when i was 16, i finally took it to the track halfway through last summer, pulled a best time of 11.76@114mph on pump gas and 9 inch wide E.T streets. with a few bugs worked out, next summer it should see the tens. you can see pictures of it at www.poorboyz.8m.com under the rides section.
thanks Backing the AMC hobbiest and i hope to see more.

Here's my '65 Rambler 770 wagon. I am currently in the process of a mild restoration. The pic doesn't show it but there is some mild quarter rust and the driver seat is frayed out. It is a 232-6/borg-warner automatic. I know some of you guys will hate me but I was thinking of switching it to a small-block chevy/TH350 combo because I have some spares. I don't mind the six but I had the tranny rebuilt about 5 years ago and it starting to slip again. I am looking for more reliability in a drivetrain. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I would definitely consider keeping it AMC powered if I could find an easy way to swap in an AMC v-8 and tougher tranny. I heard that some Jeeps used versions of the TH400 behind AMC engines. I can post some more pics if needed/wanted. I detassled corn and bought this car for $650 bucks when I was thirteen. It was spotless and had 64k miles on it then. I am now 27 and have officially had the car over half of my life. We have both a got a little rougher around the edges since then. Let me know what you think? I would be happy to lend it to CC for a build-up (wink, wink) Thanks for the articles. I really like the other guys' cars on this post too.

I think it is great that CCMAG has been able to post more AMC's in the issues. The AMC performance market has taken an exciting jump forward within the last three years. The more coverage on this automotive breed, the more I believe it will continue to grow. We all know that it will never be large like the Big-3. But with additional coverage we can expect the performance and resto markets to entertain more new products due to the growing involvement. I have always been one who enjoys being different. I have raced AMC's for over 23 years. I am currently working on my 69 AMX Pro Street car. I have installed a 415 ci. AMC engine and a turbo 400 trans. from a 79 jeep. I was able to make two test runs last year and with a small shot from the NOS plate system the car has produced a 1/4 mile et of 8.80 @ 155 mph. Keep in mind that this was full street trim. (Dot's & exhaust) I can't wait for this season to come in bloom. I am hoping to step things up and be within the 8.40 range. Keep up the great work and THUMBS UP!! to CCMAG for all the fine work that they continue to do. Tim Barnes

Yes , keep the amc issues coming. Im currently working on my first amc...a 74 hornet X. It will sport a hot chrysler 340 and an 8.75 rear...There are many aspects of amc cars that the big 3 could have learned from. For example , locating the steering box ahead of the engine....header clearance is not an issue....and they are light in the front......thanks

Im sure glad I renewed my CC subscription. The AMC coverage is greatly appreciated. I'm currently restoring / building a 74 Javelin/AMX the engine is real similar to the current buildup of the 401 in this months issue. Although I have 2.08/1.74 stainless valves, edelbrock torker and a 224/234 dur .496/.521 lift cam, total seal rings,1000 cfm ThermoQuad!
also have a 8 3/4 mopar rear(3.55 posi) &rear sway bar ,3" exhaust, mild body mods.,727 w/ full manual valve body.I do all of my own work on this car-built my own engine, trans, rear axle, electrical mods, interior.
I love all the tech and how to articles in your magazine
AMC's and Mopars are my two favorite makes
I hope your magazine covers the 2005 AMO international convention in Atlanta GA July 21-23 this year.(most events are on Saturday) It should be a blast for all the AMC nuts out there.

Glad to see more attention brought to the "other" car company. I currently own a 72 Javelin AMX with a 401/727 combo. only a few mods, (edelbrock performer car and intake, ported heads, 3 inch exhaust, flowmasters) but its fun, and its different. Keep the info and stories coming, love to see more of them.

Hello,
I am a AMC fan and owner of about 8 "projects" and one Rebel machine.I was told that you guys have started remembering that AMC exsisted! I am very happy that AMC is starting to get noticed again. I don't ever pick up car mags because I always see nothing but cameros and mustangs. If I would have known there have been some AMC info I damn sure would have bought the mag just to let you guys know that we are out here! I don't know if you guys have wrote anything on it, but if you haven't, I would love to see some rebel machine articles!!! Very awesome and beautiful car! I can burn the tires through every f'in gear in mine! People don't know that the car even exsisted, so the write ups would surly get some attention! Keep up the good work!
