ive been looking into building a sbc 383 stroker, and in my research ive seen two different ways of doing it one with a 5.7 in. rod and one with a 6.0 in. rod it looks like it will cost about the same so is there any benifit to using the 6.0 rod

I have flip-flopped from both sides of this argument over the past couple of years, but I can safely say I'm stuck on one side now after reading of the extensive testing by Reher Morrison Racing Engines and seeing that many other professionals agree...
The optimum length connecting rod is one that has the best balance between ring pack space and piston weight. Too short of a rod and the piston becomes too tall and piston weight increases, too long and the wristpin interferes with the oil ring and the whole ring pack really gets squished...
The Reher Morrison testing was done on big blocks with commonly used ratios, but it's assumed that it would apply to many other cases. Their testing included ratios from 1.5:1 to 1.9:1. The conclusion was that there was very little if any power difference within these ratios.
To your specific application I say if the prices are the same then go with the six-inch rod. It will reduce piston weight and could increase mechanical efficiency slightly.

So many articles!To a point longer rods are better in means of less piston skirt scuffing (Friction).I think I read the same info as GibTG has on this.But like stated above to long of a rod starts to interfere with ringlands which was not done with OEM designs for a reason.If you have to interfere other areas to install longer rods I believe it's not worth it. WIEDER

Chew on this! Is this wack or make sense: (shorter rod-lower rpm-smaller bore) and (longer rod-higher rpm-bigger bore) WIEDER
