Was reading about the new Hybrid Tahoe/Yukon and noticed that the electric assist is in the transmission. This got me to wondering about the possibility of swaps with this powertrain. Maybe a Hybrid Chevelle? Mileage considerations aside, as we all can appreciate a 30mpg muscle car, but my question is: Can the programming of the electric assist be altered to add it's power to the engine's power for even better acceleration? If it can not be mated to a vintage style engine for "stealth" can the 6 liter engine be modified for more power and still keep the multi-displacement programming? Just dreaming.....

It is an adaptation on the torque converter/flywheel. To take full advantage of it on your chevelle you would have to be running and EFI system to cut fuel so the engine isn't running at a stop. It should be able to up the power output of the engine accordingly, I think Lexus uses a similar hybrid system in one of their SUV's and the Hybrid is actually faster too than the standard version. In the end it will still hurt your highway mileage as the extra weight of the batteries will do nothing but kill fuel mileage at highway speeds, around town and stop and go you'd probably benefit significantly. The Multi-displacement design tries offsets the lower highway mileage with some success.
