Need a little help from the Ford guys here. A buddy of mine just bought an engine for a project and was told it was a 429CJ. Since I am a GM guy I have no idea how to tell the differences. He said that it came out of a big late 60's Lincoln. I am leaning more towards a 460 but not sure. Any help would be great! Thanx!!!!

If it's the original engine, it will be a standard 460 2 bolt block with the standard Thunderjet heads. Head numbers are located between the two center exhaust ports on the heads, just below the valve cover. They should read C8VE-A if it's a '68 Lincoln, C9VE-A if it's a '69. The Cobra Jet heads were numbered D0OE-R. It's very doubtful, although possible that someone could have installed a 429CJ into a Lincoln sometime during it's life. The '67 and older lincolns used the MEL 430-462 engines which are excellent if you need a boat anchor for your party barge. They have no performance potential at all. Hope this helps!
