I was thinking about upgrading my 232ci Rambler wagon to a Jeep 4.0 engine(same block) and transmission. Does anybody have any input on this swap? Does anyone know if the motor mount locations remained the same over the years? What do you guys know about the TH-400's AMC started using?

Assuming that your talking about a 60's rambler wagon, I believe that the bellhousing bolt patterns for the 232s were not changed to match the amc v-8s and 258s until the early 70's. Point is, if you wish to put a (post early 70's) amc/jeep six in your 60's rambler the bolt patterns won't match up with you existing trans. I suspect that you knew this from the th400 question. I do believe that the th400 from does match up with the 4.0L sixes as well as the 258s and all post 66 v8s. The trannies are bullet proof. Strong... strong enough to handle beefed up big block engines...so it would certainly not be considered a weak link in your driveline interests. Personally, I am a big amc v8 fan. If you have a mid to late 60's wagon, any 290 to 401 would fit in your engine compartment. Starting in 66 with the Rogue, a 290 fit right in. Unless gas mileage is a main concern(and I could certainly understand if it is) dropping in a nice v8 could be much more fun. Plus you wouldn't have to deal with the fuel injection conversion issues. Good running 360s with a th400 from the mid to late 70's full sized Jeeps are easy to come by. Just have the 4wd tailhousing replaced with a 2wd tailhousing and it's ready to drop in. Plenty of power to make you smile. Just a thought.....
