So with gas prices going up, I decided it was time to store my muscle car for weekend fun and buy a more fuel efficient car for everyday use. Currently I own a 1970 Olds Cutlass Supreme 4 door. It is all original (except for an aftermarket stereo which I can easily pull and restore original look) with 85K miles. Even the tranny seals are original, and don't leak. With the exception of a little body work, it is pretty much mint, especially the interior and vinyl top. It has a 350, power EVERYTHING but locks of course, auto on the column, and two benches. I am considering selling this to help pay for the new car, and possibly donate a little money to a new project car, something cheaper that could use work (because lets face it that's half the fun right there). So should I sell? If so, any ideas on the price I might fetch? I know the 4-door is rare, but is that a good or a bad rare? So pretty much any comments are greatly appreciated.

its hard to say, but 4 doors generally dont perform well in the marketplace. i think if you plan to cruise the car or have some fun with it, try to keep it. you might be disappointed with how the market treats them. they are nice cars but most people want 2 doors instead.

Yeah I'm hoping to find someone who had a four door Cutlass years ago and wants to have one again (or someone who just really wants a Cutlass, period). When we first bought it and took it to be insured we came out with the inspector to find a note on the windshield saying to call so-and-so if I was willing to sell. Hopefully something like that will happen again.

Most folks don't want 4 doors 'cause they remind them of grandma's car. At one time my step son and I built up a 1968 dodge coronet 4 door with a 318cid and a 727 torqueflite in it and we loved it. We did all the usual engine mods, threw some centerlines on it and put 2.5 exaust with flowmasters on it. What a cool car it was. And that little 318 earned some respect with the high school kids he was running with. 14.9 in a 1/4 mile! Unfortunatley Some dumb drunk driver fell asleep at the wheel and destroyed it as it was parked by the side of the road. Don't get rid of it, you will regret it.

Thanks for the input. I probably will keep it now. Doing the math, even with gas prices the way they are I'll still spend less on gas for the Olds than I will on new car payments, plus have money left over to spend on go-fast parts. Your story does give me hope. I hardly ever see four door cars built fast, but I like being unique, so it will be fun to suprise some people on the dragstrip. I was flipping through some issues of car craft and saw pics of all the nice Olds that people are building (I'd like to thank the editors for FINALLY recognizing that Olds can be pretty cool too) and I know I'd miss my car.
