Does anyone know the website that tells you how to put a small block chevy in a Jag? I've got a 383 waiting to go into my 85' Jag.

do a web search for "John's Cars" and "Suncoast" conversions. I cannot remember what their sites are but those are two popular companies and they had a little more online info than JTR.

Back in the mid 80's I stuck an LS6/454 in my wifes 74 XJ6L, I made my own mounts, crossmembers & headers. The hood even closed. 1/4 mile ran it one time got a mid 13 out of it. It was real sleeper, fun to drive ride. ah memories. Sorry none of this helps you but have fun. good luck bill.

I don't mind hearing about those things. its just fun to hear stories from my elders. They said a BBC weighs about 100 lbs less than a Jag V-12. I have found so far that alot of parts from a 80's camaro work in my jag. To bad my sister smashed hers up, it would make this process alot easier. I'm hoping someday to have the car running 12's, and if I ever make some money, make it a streetable 10 second runner.

GO for it! It did seem that the bbc weight was about the same as the 4.2 six, that came out of mine. The a/c & p/s pumps bolted right on with some used brackets & hose mods. The headers with 2" head pipes & 4" collectors, they were modified 69 camaro bbc. a very tight fit. It did require reclocking the p/s control valve on the rack & then reroute the lines, that gave me a lot more room on the left side. Do NOT attempt to move the rack, as that will cause the car to bump steer real bad. have fun bill

I think i'll stick with a small block. I might like to still carve some corners with out to much work. but I would like to put on a power added, but dont know if i'll have the room. (nitrous is not an option, I HATE it)

I like the prochager that I am currently running on a 383 in my 68 camaro. They have a universal sbc carb/efi kit that should work for you. Mine is intercooled & making around 14psi boost, thats giving me 650+ rear wheel H.P. on westechs chassis dyno, and I'm still tuning. But a turbo or 2, would sure be cool. what ever you do will be fun. bill.

I hope it will work, but I dont know if it will fit under the hood. If not, i wonder if that new turbo system for the LT1 and LS1 camaros and trans ams will work for me.(the ones that go by the rear axle). and, if anyone knows, how much power can a stock jag rearend hold. can it be made stronger?

Good question about the rear end? My 74 rear end was stock & it put up with the 500hp that 454 had. much more might have been a problem. I've also heard people say when they broke a vette IRS in a roadster to go and find a jag rear end was the fix. Is there some place to put that rear mounted turbo ? good luck bill.

Well, I just ran into another problem. I still have the stock I6 in it, but have been having a few electrical problems. My alternator gauge has been moving around alot. sometimes it will go from 13 up to the edge of the red every now and then, and stay there for a little while. When it does, everything runs better, but the engine cuts out a little. Well, finally today, it just died. Now it doesn't give out any juice to anything.(lights, horn, ect.). Before, If I didnt drive it for like 3 days, I would have a low battery. Any ideas? I think it might be the voltage regulator

Sounds like alt/reg problem. Poss. overcharging & blew a main fuse. Check the batt. voltage at the batt. 1st. Loose connection? British cars of the 60's&70's where known for elec. problems. They say thats why the Brits drink there beer warm, there fridgerators don't work most of the time. Just stuff the 383 in there, with a GM 1 wire alternator. By the way what state are you in ? Getting that passed the smog police here in CA would be kinda hard. anyway good luck bill.

I'm in kansas, so I dont really have to worry about any of that smog crap. The battery is a brand new (serious, like 2 weeks old) everstart. 900 cranking amps. its side post, so i think its making good connection.
