I'm working on a GTO and I'm ready for bodywork and paint. I've got the interior and running gear out of it and am looking for a place to take it. I heard about "Silver State Industries", a division of the Nevada state penitentiary that offers services including auto restoration. I'm looking for feedback on their work. Have any of you seen their quality or know someone who's dealt with them? Thanks.

im sure they dont let the high risk guys into these programs. theyre probably just the low level guys who are getting out soon and need some work expierence.

You might as well let an let someone on the street do it. You still are going to get the same effect. I wouldn't let some one doing 25 to life near my car.

i was only kidding when i started this. i remember i saw a movie once where agroup of prisoners were allowed to work in a shop on a red mustang. they were so happy when they got finished restoring it, that they were devasated that they wouldnt be able to drive it. one of them went crazy, and stole it. he drove around the prison yard for a while, and if i remember correctly he got shot and killed. anyway, i'm sure they do high quality work, because they dont want to have their priveledges taken away. you'll be able to save some money too, and you can probably see some of their work if you contact SSI. maybe they have a website or something.

A guy I know restored a fire truck and had it painted there. The results are unbelieveable... show quality +. They recieved the vehicle in pieces, rusted apart. Not only did they do flawless body work and paint, they did the gold leaf lettering. And, it was a fraction of the price of a local shop.
