That is kind of why I sold my V8 vega as well. Turning wrenches all day really burns you out to the point where you don't want to work on your own stuff anymore. My mom gave me her 65 mustang and its hard for me to even check the frigin' oil once a week.

You know as a person who has thrown many a bomb in some of these forums I read this one with some amusement . Vega you are a Chevy guy but you are pretty sensible and your dislike for these are understandable they are tough to work on and tough to get parts for . Even Mr Big block Nova my foe of many of these "Thread Wars" is reasonable in this case. There are two people who are not, TC is completely blinded by his hatred for Fords , dude , you need to lighten up . OK sure you dislike them but too say that you think they are all junk really destroys your credibility . The GT is way cooler than the odd z whatever ridiculous combo Chevy is trotting out now for the Corvette. The car is just too boring . It may be quick but dull. The Dodge guy who said that all Chevy motors suck is off his rocker too. I have even admitted as a Ford guy there are a few Chevys I like and a few Dodges . Everybody made some great cars with good engines and a few stinkers with crappy engines.

I grew up in Romeo, Michigan, home of this crappy engine plant, and if the people of Romeo are any indication of the quality of workers in this plant, then I'm surprised any of these engines make it 5 miles without blowing up.
HELL YES ROMEO MUST DIE !!!!!
I got out as soon as I could, and haven't looked back !!!
I have 4 GM cars, 1 has 80,000 miles, two have 130,000 miles and one has 300,000 miles......all with minimal problems over the years. Never any major engine work done to any of them.
I haven't owned a Ford in about 15 years, until I recently bought a 93 Crown Vic (4.6) from an 85 year old man, and even though it's been babied/maintained, it's just one problem after another.
Long live pushrods !!!!!!!!!!

O.K, lets clear the air once and for all. I am a GM guy, there is no doubt about that. But, I DO LIKE FORD TOO!!! I frigin' drive a 65 mustang to work every day. But to question my credibility because I have a deep loathing for the romeo engine due to it being a pain in the butt to work on is really going out on a limb. However, I will say that when they are running, they run well. You mentioned the gt verses the vette, well let me tell you something!!! I HATE THE CORVETTE TOO! I would take the GT over a vette any day. And yes, all three of the Big Three build turds. Chevy trucks with the vortec induction love to blow intake gaskets, dodge neons love to pop head gaskets etc. So, in closing why don't you give me a break and just let me have my opinion. After all, opinions are like butt holes..............

ok, really. why the GT over the Z06? the GT makes 50 h.p more, has a slightly higher top speed, but cost ALOT more. the Z06 is a much better package, and I bet there are still little speed parts you can put on and raise that h.p. and top speed mark.

The GT is a much better looking car than the vette, in MY opinion. I will probably not work on the GT ever in my lifetime. As for the vette, I most certainly will. Ever do an optispark tune-up and change the distributer on a corvette? I have and it sucks!!! The engine itself isn't the problem, it is the confinement and lack of space in which to do it. And as a further note, if I had my choice I would take a hemi powered Magnum over all the modern muscle built today. I have a thing for station wagons! There was a little picture and caption in *** a while back where a fella was on the track with a Magnum running 13's with some tuning. Gotta love it!

never had to work on the LT1, but those arent in the corvettes anymore. the LS7 seems like a great motor (other than the dry sump and all that good stuff). So basing it off hard to work on is only a somewhat fair approach, because im sure the new one is hard to work on also, but what new car isnt? as for looks, thats opinions, so whatever you think on that is fair game. I personally like the Z06, only thing I would change how large the rear seems on it. Dont like the GT because it just seems like a race car put on the street. Reminds me of something I would have drove on a car game from the 80's.

I am definitely a fan of the Z06. The fact is, the Vette will run with the GT every step of the way in every measureable statistic, costs half as much, and gets better mileage...by a long shot.
I like the GT, and it has its place, but the Corvette will survive past this year...and the GT wont.

I agree 100 percent. the GT has a top speed only 7 mph higher, the Z06 is still faster than the GT in the quarter despite 45 less h.p., but the GT cost twice as much, the question is why? From everything I have read, the Z06 is funner to drive than the GT because of the sound and feel of the car, not to mention you can see out the back window. so, i guess its down to if you like the looks enough to spend twice as much for the same car.

First of Mr Vega I NEVER doubted your credibility I questioned TC's not yours. I thought I made that clear but if I mis-spoke I apologise . I also think the GT is a Thousand times cooler. It is based a a Race car that won Le Mans several times . If Mr Nova it looks like a video game car it is because the video game stole the cars design. This thing in its original form was THE dominant race car in the world in the 60's. As far as wanting a z0 whatever in 50 years the GT will be far more collectable than any vette. It will be discontinued after next year yes but it was designed to be a short run , not continued into eternity. So I think if you ask most people if you would rather have a GT or the vette most would take the GT after look at what they are selling for .

do you mean over looking what the GT sells for? because I think alot of people are economically minded and if they see the price of the Z06 compared to the GT, they'd take the Z06. expecially when they see the fuel economy of 18/26 compared to the GT's 13/21. the only reason they would pick the GT is to have it sit in the garage and take it out now and then, which would be a huge was of money, which explains the warrenty on the GT. but the Z06 is meant to be driven everyday. and isnt the Z06 based on the car the wins lots of races also?

I am saying the GT is awesome and the vette is just another car. A fast car but not the car the GT is . If you own a GT or a z0blegh you do not care about gas mileage. Hell if you can afford EITHER of these you can do whatever the hell you want. So all that $ compairison as far as what is more "affordable" is spurious at best. The z06 may be based on a winning car but not with the racing heritage of the GT .

Not quite...paying 65,000 for a car is considerably different that paying 150,000...I don't know where you get that you can throw out affordability with a car that is DOUBLE the price. I don't care what kind of car it is...twice as much is a different market (at least...in new car terms). There are plenty of people who can afford the vette that will never be able to afford the GT...and, I know at least for me, when I get my Vette, I'm gonna want to drive it...so yeah...gas mileage is a concern. With price, they are completely different ballparks...as far as performance...they are almost identical. And the victor is...CORVETTE Over the past 2 years the Vette has won more races than the GT...so you can take your pick as to which is actually the race car for the street. The Corvette has won more races in its history than the GT-40 ever did...actually its probably won more over the past 5 years than the GT-40 ever did (just a guess...but since the C5-R and C6-R racing programs are really successful...its probably not that far off). The Corvette has been racing for most of its life...where as the GT-40 only raced for what...5,6, maybe 7 years. The Vette is THE American sports car and always will be...the GT-40, and the Cobra, and the Viper, and the GT, as cool as they may be...will never take that title from the Vette. And the victor is...CORVETTE So it comes down to looks...and thats it...you prefer the GT...great...more power to you...but I don't know of "just another car" that will run an 11.5 in the quarter from the factory and handle and brake with Ferrari and Porsche (I assume they don't have any racing heritage either right Bat?). For anyone who is interested...here is a video of a Corvette Z06 (think you can remember that Bat?...I know its three digits instead of two...which is 50% more to remember, so I understand if you cant... Sorry, I just found that very annoying considering you took more effort to write in the rest as opposed to just finishing with "6" . Turn up the speakers and listen to that motor rev...its awesome. Btw...the Corvette's motor (the Z06 model with the LS7) is based off of a race only engine...the GT's is based off the same motor used in regular old passenger vehicles. And the victor is...CORVETTE http://video.search.yahoo.com/video/view?&h=124&w=150&type=flash&rurl=www.youtube.com%2Fw%2FC6-Z06%3Fv%3DbWFmoWv8giA%26feature%3DRandom%26page%3D1%26t%3Dt%26f%3Db&vurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fplayer.swf%3Fvideo_id%3DbWFmoWv8giA&back=p%3Dcorvette%2Bz06%26ei%3DUTF-8%26cv%3Dg%26fr%3DFP-tab-vid-t%26b%3D61&turl=scd.mm-da.yimg.com%2Fimage%2F1642899197&name=player.swf&no=76&tt=376&p=corvette+z06&oid=4866519aa46fa294&size=10.3kB&dur=1&src=p Sorry, its nothing personal...your arguments just suck

I stand amazed. that was the same argument I was gonna post, but ya beat me to it. Those are what I was basing my facts off of, everything said. The Z06 is the biggest bang for your buck. Given, the Z06 takes more driver input than the GT. I believe they have even said a grandma can drive the GT effectively. Check out the motor trend mag, in the latest issue they show a bunch of late model "muscle" cars that have been to performance shops taking on the Z06. Even with all the extra's, the Z06 was the 2nd biggest bang for the buck, and outperformed most cars in handling and braking, and beat two cars in the quarter. Weird how the moded GTO came out to the best bang for the buck, but a turbo and lumpy cam can do that. and as for the ford motor company, look at the issue. look at all the power they made from the GT with simple boost and exhuast changes, it put down 635 hp to the wheels and is emissions legal.

These guys can't see the forest for the trees. If you can afford a z06 corvette, you probably can afford just about anything. Secondly, most people who buy corvettes don't use the horsepower under the hood anyways! I'm not overly impressed with the new corvette. Yeah it's fast. But it's ugly, and the ls7 leaves very little in the way of upgrades. I don't really like either cars, but I'd take a gt over a corvette. At least the GT looks good.
