Hey Car Craft,

just wanted to say how much I enjoy the magazine. I love the aditude and the little sideways comments on the photos.

I decided to subscribe, so I wouldn't miss any of the CC/Rambler articles. I think the 66-69 Rambler American is a great little car. Light, well built, stiff unit body, they ride great and handle pretty good for their day. And I love the crisp styling. Most contempory road tests commented on how tight and solid they were. A 1969 Motor Trend road test compared a 350 Nova, 340 Dart , Falcon and a 290 4 speed Rogue,  They raved over the Rogue's handling, braking and comfort and only the 340 Dart was quicker.

My first nice car in high school was a gold and black 66-1/2 290 four speed Rogue and I've been hooked ever since.

We have had a 67 Rogue convert for the last 28 years and continually keep tweeking it. It now has a 73 401 with TRW forged pistons, Crower cam, pocket ported heads, HarlanSharp roller rockers, Offy intake with two Edelbrocks and a MSD billet distributor. THe plan now is for either Indy or Edelbrock aluminum heads and the new Edelbrock shorty headers. I would also like to convert to EFI.

I went from a Turbo400 to a BPO 200R4. The 200R4 fits a lot better. I used an adapter kit by Advanced Adaptors. THe only problem I'm having is with starters. I've tried a number of the hi-torque mini starters and non of them have the right pinion gear depth (every one seams to be different). The adapter doesn't affect starter alignment so I  don't know what the problem is. The stock AMC starters work OK but don't spin the 401 with very much enthusiasim and only last  a season. Anybody have any ideas?

I went through a couple of custom wound front springs to get the drop and ride the way I wanted it. The front discs are now custom brackets with Granada rotors and the larger GM calipers. So far it has the original rear end with an Auburn posi unit, 3:54 gears and Mosser one piece axles. The lates addition has been to adapt a Ford Motorsport Explorer rear disc brake kit. The Ford brackets only had to be slotted about .125" to work with the AMC axle flange.  I also adapted a 79 AMC Spirit rear sway bar.

Sorry for rambling on, but I love these little cars and get a real kick out of you chosing one for a project car. You've got me thinking about getting a hardtop or two door and put the 401 in that and go racing!

Can I post pictures?

Thanks guys,

Bruce Kaiser

I am thinking about selling my 66 amc (twin to the 67)or keeping and putting a v8 in it. Would like to get any input from you if you would be so kind. Thanks Jerry. sm688@bellsouth.net. I was very happy to see the 67 and will keep close eye on it. My father own a Rouge (67-68 gold) with a 390 4 speed if I remember right. I wish I had it.
