Basically My sis has a '95 Camaro with a LT1 that needs to be replaced and she's looking at replacement options. I'd help her but i know NOTHING about todays modern engines (I'm used to pre-'79 engines) and we are trying to decide what would be the best option?
She is looking to spend $2000-$4000 and she is willing to look at other equivelent engines (as long as they are comparable as far as performance) and we have no idea what would be best, crate engine, get this one rebuilt, buy a used one, etc. she basically wants to buy it and have it slappedin (not a project) any suggestions?

Well... Consider this, the motor is taken out from the bottom on those cars. If it were me, I'd stick with an LT1 if you don't want a project. If you've got the time, tools, patience, and skill I would overhaul it myself and do some upgrading. Otherwise I'm sure you can find a reman in that range. your best bet is to do a dyi rebuild. The motor can be pulled from the top but you need to remove everything from the heads up and the block forward to get it out. Your best bet is to drop it out the bottom with the trans and suspension. Rebuilds are straight forward as any other sbc after 1986 (one piece rear mains). The whole thing is pretty easy and can be done in your garage. Besides that the money you save on doing it yourself, you can put into a few parts to help make a little extra power....shorty headers are nice and cheaper than the long tubes, but the long tubes make significantly more power in the long run...

Take the Lt1 out. Take it apart see whats wrong with it if heads and intake are good Id buy a 383 Lt1 block of ebay and bolt everything of the old one to it. Stick a cam in it and drive it like you stole it!!!!!
