My first car that I bought and wasn't a hand me down was 71 Impala four door sedan that I immediately hopped up the 400. The little old lady who owned before me never opened the back doors in 15 years so the hinges were frozen. But in no time I was the high school taxi driver to five fighting friends.

I personally like the ccrambler and the disco nova articles. I'm currently doing a build up on an 88 Caprice Classic 4 door which we paid  $650 for it has a 350 4 barell and overdrive trans with a 3.73 posi rear end a very nice all around street machine . also wouldnt mind seeing something like a fox body budget build up 79-92 mustang or maybe a fairmont with a small chevy  using mostly used parts something like low 11's on motor and 9.50 on spray for less than $15,000 . CC Keep up the good work ! Glenn Kotas

I'm looking on Collector Car Trader Online for these, and only searching California.  I'm trying to limit my search to $3000 or under, and I'm only listing cars that I think are in in So-Cal.

'79 Malibu 2-door.  No A/C or Radio, V6, $2800 (Where's that nasty 400HP 355 at?- MJ)

1977 CHEVROLET CAMARO, LT, V8, at, tans, clean in/out, needs little tlc, $2000 (Cheap and ugly, but parts are everywhere for "pennies"- MJ)

1978 CHEVROLET CAPRICE, clean inside & out, new transmission, $3, 500 or best offer  (This one is a two door- MJ)

1987 FORD MUSTANG, 4 cylinders, auto, faily new transmission with warranty. $950 (Perfect for that 5.0 Swap- MJ)

1971 FORD LTD, red, 4002v engine, ac, 2 barrel carburetor, front disc brakes, car is in long beach, $1, 500 or best offer (land yacht, but what can CC do with a 400?- MJ)

1965 FORD FALCON, RANCHER0, 9 rear end, new c-4 transmission, new tires & rims, engine runs good, project car, must sell $2, 200, (Why are they building a tired Rustang when this thing is out there, in Lakewood?  Even has slot mags on it- MJ)

1974 PLYMOUTH SATELLITE, SEBRING, 318 V8, rebuilt motor/trans, lthr, $1, 750 (Yeah, it's ugly, but what about that 400 hp 318 in it?- MJ)

1980 PLYMOUTH VOLARE, station wagon, at, ac, needs valve cover gaskets, $1100 obo/poss trade (Yeah, it's a wagon, but it already has Weld wheels on it and to me it screams sleeper- MJ)

1971 BUICK LE SABRE, 2 dr, excellent motor, asking $3, 500 (I know, a little out of the price range, but the car is gorgeous and we want a Buick motor build.  Pu it in this- MJ)

1971 BUICK CENTURION, convertible, $3200 (It looks like a LeSabre covertible.  See above for why it should be bought- MJ)

1965 BUICK RIVIERA, Gran Sport, no motor, posi rear end, straight body, no rust, needs complete electrical in dash, Temecula/Murrieta area, $975, or best offer (This thing screams CC project- MJ)

1970 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX, J, runs real good, $3, 500 (Did the J come with the 400 or the 455?- MJ)

1965 PONTIAC TEMPEST, needs to be restored, $3, 500 (It's in Burbank ands needs bodywork, but so does the AMC and when was the last time you saw a two door Tempest/LeMans?GTO for less than $4000- MJ)

1970 PONTIAC FIREBIRD, runs good, needs little work, parts and accessories included, comes with extra motor, $3, 000 (For a '70 Firebird with an extra motor?  Why not?  Two scores for the price of one- MJ)

318ci, rebuilt 904 trans with stage 2 shift kit, hooker competition headers, edelbrock 4 bbl, crane cam and lifters, BandM ratchet shifter, Runs good, dont have time or money to finish what I started, $1600.00 OBO (This one may have already been a CC project, since it's only half done- MJ)

1968 DODGE D100, 3/4 ton, green, V8, at, l/b, straight body, $1, 500 or best offer (Here's the 2wd truck someof you have been asking for- MJ)

1965 DODGE CORONET 440, 4-dr sedan, 318 poly engine, 4-bbl, tach, front/rear sway bars, $1, 795  (Okay, it's a four door.  But it looks good and would be a great cruiser- MJ)

1966 OLDSMOBILE TORONADO, runs , $2800 (It's black, and it looks like the Batmobile- MJ)

1973 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME, 350 rocket engine, 350 transmission, $2, 300  (Two door, Olds Powered, TH350, Where's Perris CA? MJ)

1971 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME, auto floor shift, $3000 (Already has a console shift.  Needs bodywork though- MJ)

1974 AMC MATADOR, X, black w/white stripe, AT on the floor, 304, V8, $1, 300 (I'm a sucker for slot mags on black cars- MJ)

1977 CHRYSLER CORDOBA, 400 engine, $2350 (Get some graphics and turn it into a Road Runner- MJ)

1967 CHRYSLER, Newport: 383 cu in V-8, torquef lite 3-speed automatic, dual-exhaust, rebuilt-engine with hardened valves, $3000 (I don't know if it's a 2 or 4 door, but it's a cool car with a 383- MJ)

I haven't even looked at Cadillac, and I really limited my years searched.  I tried to stay away from F bodies and Fox chassis 'cause there are a ton out there.  Why is CC still doing late 60's Mustangs and Camaro's?

I think that CC should so a truck for the next project.  I own one BAD-A$$ 72 chev C-10 shortbed stepside that I orig. paid $350 for.  Their are tons of parts available for old trucks of most makes and models.  I bet I'm not the only one who would like to see it.

ha ha, thats basically what i do when looking for projects. living in SoCal you tend to find cool crap although i stay well under the 2K mark when looking for hot deals.

my city damn near borders Lakewood by the way. so yeah, you are deep in SoCal in your search.

Good choice on the Caprice! I got to second the motion on this one... Those cars are alot of fun to work with... I just seen an 85 Impala here in the paper for all of 300 bucks.. I think I'm gonna call.. it might be a 2 door... and I got all the goodies to put in a clutch.. man, it's tempting and the wife would kill me if I dragged home another project.. **LOL**!

The fox mustang is a wonderful choice too.. I happen to be looking for one for my son who is just starting out driving. Such a series would be great for him and others looking for cheap easy performance on a shoestring budget.

Everybody is talking about whether or not the mag should do a 4 door.  What's the point?  I think 99% of us know that what works to upgrade the drivetrain or suspension on a '64 Malibu 2dr hardtop will generally work on a '64 Malibu 4 dr sedan.  Same as pounding out a dent in the fender, same a changing the steering wheel.  If the mag does decide to do a 4 door it may be cool and may help to further social acceptance of  similar projects but what is really learned from it?  If all you can find or afford is a 4 door Falcon, Nova, Maverick, Dart, Malibu, Comet, etc, etc.; go for it.  You don't need a 4 door specific article or build to inspire you.  What we need is guidance in making something out of nothing.  Making something a V8 that was not previously and such.

Please Build a 65 impala two door hardtop. Start out with a 283 and mode that for a while. Then you should look at a third-gen camaro.Have it be a 87-92 rs model with the tbi-305.Build that 5.0liter up and run it against your FireBird. Also you guys should do a sort of beater daily driver challenge.Buy a beater v-8 powered car/truck,do a few simple up grades. Then Glad should fix up that 74 camaro cheaply and then they should compare them with that $3500 olds in a drag strip face off.But you have to build the car for less then $3500 and have dyno sheets to prove how much bang you got for your buck. Please try to freshen some stuff up.Go for an odd ball car or truck.V-8 dodge dakota/four door nova/mid70s monte carlo/late80s ford pick up with a stick and 302.But what ever you *** do it the carcraft way.Not the giant budget way.Cheap is good if it works.
