GM just plain sucks! and I have had it with crappy chevrolet products. My 2001 3500 series silverado is the latest GM product I purchased. The tailgate support cables both snapped at the same time while I was standing on the gate! I was 10 feet above a scrap metal dumpster at my city dump station! My nearest GM truck dealer tells me the recall was performed on the truck,BULL.The new cables should have been stainless steel, mine? the defective galvanized originals. My abs? the damn thing avtivates when I apply the brakes under 35 mph.I found a tsb/recall bulletin online, but amazingly this same GMC truck dealer insisted there was no such recall or even a tsb on it.The truck is a 2001 with 30k on it and is falling apart!! the oil pressure bounces around more than anna nicole's rack in a jumping jack contest!! MY wife has a 2002 ford escape that we bought brand new,it has 107k on it and other than tires, oil, and wipers only the battery died prematurely. It even pulled my guess what? GMC 2500 4x4 ext cab home after that pos died. And we cry that the foreigners are killing us.No wonder.GM plans to turn things around? too little too late for this former customer!

Wow that's too bad.  Too many gizmos on all these vehicles made since '73 of course somethings going to go wrong but you'd think they could get damn tailgate right.  Fool that I am I just sold my 1970 F-250 Highboy now that was a truck that couldn't be beat it hauled everything I own up and over Teton pass in nearly a foot of snow always started and never made any stupid beeping sounds.  It leaked everywhere so you had to keep on top of the fluids but I'll tellya one thing I never replaced a frickin sensor on it!  har har!

I just bought a Chevy Cobalt (not a truck, but this is about quality so...) and everything is as tight as possible. There is a huuuuuge difference between late 90s/early 2000s quality and quality since 05. I work at a Toyota dealership and the cobalt is put together better than the Corollas we have on our lot by far. Give the new stuff a shot.

No problems so far with my 06 colorado. Crew cab, inline 5. Which I tell ya, is a pretty decent motor. At highway speeds when ya step on it to pass, it will take ya for surprise, like it better than the 4.3. Plus I have been getting 22-24 mpg. If I had any complaints, it would be I wish I would have got the 5 speed, and I wish I didnt have traction control (or at least there would be a button to shut it off). I have managed once to get it to power brake, but it was jumpy. My favorite part of the whole truck, for some odd reason, its the oil drain/cup on the crossmember. Thats right, directly under the oil filter is a crossmember, so to fix that problem there is a plastic cup thing with a spout that take its out and down over the crossmember. I dont know if that has been used in any other type of car, but I like it.

I have a '99 Suburban with ~125K on it.  It'll need a tranny and some rear diff work before too long, but other than that it's been trouble free.  Change the oil and put gas in it.

I have run the gambit on this.  I have had some real good luck and some bad luck with GM, and the new vehicles I have now have yet to prove themselves.

First the bad.  I have owned a 96 half ton Suburban, and a 3/4 ton '99 Suburban, and I had trouble with both of those vehicles.  On the half ton, I kept going through transfer case seals and the rear end went out of it after towing a Cutlass 36 miles.  It should have been up to the task but apparently wasn't.  With the 99, it had a 454 in it that was a gas hog (that was expected).  What wasn't expected was that the engine kept blowing lower end seals and flinging oil all over the place.  It also had transfer case problems.  The engine problem never did get fixed and I traded off the thing and wrote it off as a lemon.

Now the good.  The absolute BEST truck I have ever owned was a 1991 half ton Chevy with just the regular 350 in it.  It was two wheel drive and had 100,000 when I bought it.  It ran strong until someone swiped it from in front of my house and mowed down two power poles with it.  Needless to say the truck was a total wreck.  It never really got replaced.  I then bought a 1996 half ton 4x4 that was a hog to drive, but it was absolutely reliable.  I let my son use it for about 6 months and he ruined the thing, so I traded it for an '02 extended cab.  I kept it for two years and it really gave outstanding service.  I only got rid of it because I could get my '04 on zero down and 0% for 60 months.  So far the '04 has been reliable and I agree with the guy that said that the quality has gone up (substantially).  We also bought my wifes Impalla on the same financing.  Now I haven't used my truck too much since I use rapid transit to go to work.  It only has 10,000 miles on it, so I will know more about it's durability when I start towing the trailer around.  My wifes Impalla is getting the guts driven out of it since she uses it for work.  It has 32,000 on it and we just are having to take it in because it looks like she may have an alternator problem.  The engine and tranny are tight, and the special SS suspension and brake package make it a kick to drive.  The supercharged V6 isn't bad for power either.

So I guess for me it's been kind of a hot and cold thing.  All the old GM iron I have is priceless and I would never let it go.  I think the jury is still out on our two new vehicles.

That's my two bits.........Bowser

The company I work for has several GM's. Six suburbans and one escalade esv. We just sold two 02's that had 175,000 miles each. These things ran seven days a week, about 55,000 miles a year. They got oil changes every 4000 miles. One seemed to go through batteries once a year and the other had no problems ever. The 03 Escalade had issues with it's GPS/radio that was $1400 to replace and our lot guys seemed to forget to service the tranny for the first 110,000 miles. It didn't want to shift. It has been fine since the tranny flush.

The biggest problems we had with these SUV's was the radio knobs breaking and the bucket seat's armrests breaking.

We just bought three 07 Suburbans and two of the them have ABS sensor problems within the first week. Apparantly, this is a common problem which will probably end up a recall soon.

here's my two cents. I have owned three or four GM products over the last few years, and all have given me greif except one. My first car was a 1981 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4, and it was an animal. It went through about 30 gallons of gas a week, and was a bear to drive, but the only thing that ever went wrong other than the starter going out, was the rear main seal went bad. Other than that, I drove the piss out of that thing and racked up over 250,000 miles. That was the good one, now for the bad...after that, I bought a 1995 3/4 ton Suburban, and it gave me problem after problem. The transfer case would shift out of low range and into neutral at the most inoportune times. I took it to the dealer, and he put it in low, pressed on the brake, and gave it gas. When the T-case popped out of low, it shocked the driveline really bad, broke the rear axel, shattered the front CV's and took out reverse in the transmission. Needless to say, the shop payed for that one. Then, it kept eating through brakes every 10,000 miles, and the dealer couldn't tell me why. The water pump went out twice, the battery had to be replaced every year, and the power steering leaked like hell. Sold it to a someone for 1000 bucks. Then I had a 1996 Caprice cop car that was a total wreck. The back seat was plastic, (no not vynil, plastic) and it had holes in the roof that leaked when it rained. It had a 350, and ran like it had been shot in the a$$. I only owned it for about a year and I got t-boned at a 4-way stop by someone who ran the stopsign. in 2002, I bought a 2000 Silverado, and within a year, the bed cracked in half because "the road that I live on is too rough" or so the dealer said. They were gonna charge me for a whole new bed so i just welded mine back together. Then it had electrical problems like no other. I used to keep a box of fuses in it, because almost everytime I used it, something went out. I got fed up with chevys, and this year, I traded my Silverado in on an 06 Chrysler 300C (yes with the Hemi) its the first car I have ever bought new, and so far been the nicest car I have ever owned or driven, its got power to spare, and handles like a go-cart. I am forever sold on Chrysler's new products, regardless of what GM's stuff is doing now.

Mopar or Nocar

we seem to have similar expiriences.my favorite gm vehicles were the used ones i had.and those that replied that swear their 06's are perfect should have added the same comment you did. "unproven" give it time.the curse of the general will prevail.and yes i realize not every car or truck they build will do this, and i don't wish bad things on any of you.i hope i am wrong and it's just me.thanks for the responses though i do see i am not alone completely.
