Used them in my b.b.chev w/ a Comp X-treme,a lobe went flat after a few thousand miles.Did I mess up on break-in or is there a different break-in method or do these lifters not work with these more aggressive lobes in today's cams?

How did you break it in. What weight of oil did you use and did you use assembly lube on the lobes and bottoms of the lifters. What did you set the lifter adjustment at.

probably an oil issue.todays oils do NOT have all of the anti-wear additives they used to.try it again and follow the cams brake-in instructions to the letter.also add a good brake-in lube, most of the cam companies offer them.also LUCAS,ROYAL PURPLE,AMSOIL,ALL HAVE THEM.GOOD LUCK

Forgot to include that the was gooped up with break-in and straight 30w Valvoline back in 97, was the ash still in oil back then? Ran rpm between 2-3000rpm like I usally do.I must have dropped the ball somewhere in the process. Can anybody else tell if they have used these lifters,I don't hear much about them the wrencher's I know never have used them, but they also don't talk good or bad about them. Thanks WIEDER

I'm sure the Rhoads lifters had nothing to do with your camshaft going out. I'm sure this was a break-in issue...

When you started it for the first time, did it start RIGHT AWAY? Did you remove the inner springs? (if double valve springs were used), Did you use a oil with high quantities of ZDDP additives? Did you change the oil right after the initial break-in? Did you run the engine for 15-25 minutes the first that it started varying the RPM's from 2000-3000?

Etecetera, etcetera...

All of these things and more factor in to a flat tappet living in a performance engine.
