What to do with the straight six mustang

I loved your Falcon!!! This was by far one of the most interesting cars featured in CC in years. The fact that your Falcon runs 11's & is " very streetable" has to have a bunch of people talking to themselves. Heres hoping that you get it into the 10's & that it causes wide spread consternation....you'll know that you are on the right track when your Falcon piss's people off!!Congratulations, your inventiveness is something sorly lacking with cookie cutter cars. The news about the availability of an aluminum head/manifold for this application puts to rest the most daunting aspect of this build. Come on CC....pony up some time, money & invention. Make the 6 quick & make it handle in more directions than a straight line!

I think they should keep the six. There are plenty of people out there (like me) who would love to find ways to make their old inline 6 perform better without pulling out the whole drivetrain. Common, this article is way overdue...BUILD IT!

How about sticking with the six-cyl theme, but taking a more modern approach?

I have a 63 Falcon with a 170 six-cyl that I have grandiose dreams of putting a mid-to-late 80's SHO V6 into.  Allegedly you can back the 3.0/3.2 SHO's up with a 3.0L Ranger or Aerostar bellhousing, fabricate an adaptor, make a few other, minor modifications and adapt a T5 from a 94 or 95 5.0 Mustang.  You're already starting with 220 hp, will get some decent mileage and, if it can be done, it would be a great resource for those of us that want something a little different.

I think its Methanol that corrodes fuel systems, ethanol is "lighter" than regular gasoline (87 octane) i know that my 2 stroke dirtbike will not run on ethanol blended fuel because it causes the motor to run rich with oil because it cannot burn the oil like it can with regular fuel.

Just my 2 cents im not saying im right cuz im probly not but i think i am.

Feel free to correct me if im wrong, im a teenager i know no better.

I say "KEEP IT INLINE" However, my opinion is a little bias, as I'm the owner of Ford Six Performance.

We are producing a new aluminum cylinder head for the small six, with a removable alloy intake, high velocity ports, fast burn chambers, and a respectable increase in CFM (intake and exhaust).  We plan to offer four of five intakes, a 2V, 4V, dual 2V, triple 2V, and even an intake suited for an M90 blower. All with injector bungs and designed by one of the leading intake manufacturers. We hope to have them available by mid summer, as the head patterns were just completed this week. We are casting the first head on Monday, however this one will be disected for inspection purposes.

If you decided to keep the six, let us know. We'd be happy to donate one of our new cylinder heads for the project.  Corteco has also agreed to produce a high performance head gasket, suited specifically to the new head, so we'll toss that in too.

There's lots of other parts that could be incorperated as well. For example, Performance Distributors just introduced a new HEI dizzy for the small six, which added 13 ponnies on the dyno (over a DSII/MSD). How about a Magnuson M90 Procharger (new or used)? Want to keep it N/A, then set it up with triple duce throttle boddies and port injection? Maybe a roller cam and/or full roller rockers? Billet cranks, forged pistons, hipo balancers, dual roller chains, or high capacity oil pans with windage trays. They are all available, or on the way.

With the inline six, it would have lighter nose weight (more so with the aluminum head) for improved handling and great HP, torque, and gas mileage.

Say " Halalujah & Amen "thank you Ford Six Performance! The gauntlet has been thrown down...come on CC...do you have the Nads to work with 2 less cylinders? Will you take the offer of using their cylinder head & manifold? The possible combinations sound fascinating & full of potential. There are a ton of inline engines out there for dirt cheap & obviously people who would be interested in doing something with them. Exercise some leadership in the field & show us " How To Think Outside of the Box"! I for one want to follow the development of these parts from Ford Six Performance.

Well, there you go CC!!! A great head for free!! (**LOL**) Have you got the guts to take the challenge? This new product sounds very promising and a great opprtunity to be right on the cutting edge of some new ideas that might really be a success.  Maybe CC could do a 200 and 250 inch version of this build, back it up with a 5 speed and see what happens.

How about taking the SBF route, but applying the budget blower build to a 351W and using a C4, stall and 8.8 rear with a 3.45 geared locker???

That would get me going!!!

How about using the new design Ford Six head, with the AMC 4.0 H.O. injector set up on it.. (using the Jeep computer to run it as a stand-alone system..) This might be a good low budget approach for those down on cash. (Speaking of AMC's.. CC could always drop the 258 crank in a 4.0 block and end up with almost 290 cubes and drop it in a small bodied AMC like a hornet, gremmie or spirit...food for thought..) This type of article/build is long overdue... just don't bolt on a header and call it done.. do a full blown article/build in various states of tune.

make an all around performer, but really max out each thing not just have it do o-kay.like run 10's but not have it come to a complete stop to turn a corner,or get it to do a 60-0 in less than 110 feet plus run 10's and pull some g's.truly prove that old iron can be built to hang with new stuff like porches,z06's etc.and if you can do all that with the the inline 6 than i will send in your name to have canonised

I gotta say, I agree with the 6 build. I have always preferred big block power, but there is something unique about getting power from such a lightweight block, and the parts are there for the asking. I and many others reading this string are more than curious as to what kind of power can be made with a six using the new technologies out there.  Save the V8 for another project and show us what this powertrain is capable of. Listen to the readers!!!!!!!!!!

because I put a late model 302 in a '64 f100 and it has no personality, the mileage is no better than a six, and evrybody and his mother has an EEC 5.0 HO in their station wagon, coupe, or whatever. $9000 is still a lot of money to spend on something like that. I really wish I had kept the six with the 3-speed column shift, and spent all the rest of the money on paint and body work.
