I'd like to see this.

Please lord- not another 302/tremec build.  There's a whole magazine devoted to that- it's called Muscle Mustangs or something.

Here's what you do with that straight six. This is a 250 with the FSP proto type aluminum head, triple TBIs, 292 cam, forged pistons, crower rods, DUI & FAST, and a few lbs of boost. Should pound out 450-500 ponnies (or more), but we will know for sure in a few weeks when its dyno'd.

In a word.... WOW! What a great looking cylinder head! Man, if CC passes this up they are insane!!! (Isn't this the group that approaced CC with this new design head.. the one they are willing to donate for testing??) You can tell by my screen name I'm not a ford guy, but the prospect of becoming one is beginning to look very tempting. Anyone have a crossmember laying around to put a straight six in a Fox body? Imagine this wild 6 in a Fox body with a 5 speed and 3.73's.... SWEET!

Awesome!  Keep us posted.

(It's ironic that in the "We aren't rich but we aren't stupid" thread (about turbocharging V8s)  we're fighting those who hate anything more than cast iron, carbs, N20 and pushrod small blocks in CC, but in this thread, folks get stoked over advances in technology . . . .)

Amen, Brother!

If its not TURBOCHARGED, you're not finished yet . . . .

Wouldnt a Fairmont be a place to find an I6 crossmember for a Fox body? junkyard ! woot!

either way, yeah the idea of a nasty turbo 6 popper sounds fun, but id rather see it in something else. get a Comet Caliente or something and drop it in. similar platform as a Mustang so mechanicals would be easy enough and i think it would be pretty cool. will it happen? nahh i doubt it. wouldnt sell enough magazines to be honest.

so... who here is volunteering to do this on their own and learn a thing or two?

i still wanna turbo something on a relative budget, but thats a year off or so.

When you think about it.. these sixes have been completely ignored for decades. The current design is only a few steps above the old flathead days. They were designed strictly for daily drivers and trucks. With the popularity of V-8's (and the cheap fuel back then..) the six was forgotten. It is great to see someone with the vision and the new design cylinder head, to see the potential of hundreds of thousands of sixes quietly rusting behind garages and in junkyards. It only takes a good dose of "what if" and a bit of bravery to see what can be done.  I think this sort of action is long overdue.

The best example of this is the Cadillac 472 and 500 developments... before they were hauled to the crusher in paps old El Dorado.. now they are potent performers.. food for thought.

Yeah, it's kind of like in street rodding . . . stuff you couldn't give away back when used '32s and Model As were everywhere is now prime material.

As a counterpoint to Freiburger's complaint about the ill-effects of inflation in the "musclecar" market,  as prices for desirable stuff climb, Car Crafters will revisit previously overlooked alternatives (like 472 Cadillacs, inline sixes and four-door sedans) to create new forms of street/strip machines.

I'm not saying I'm for $100,000 Camaros and million-dollar Hemicudas, but "a rising tide lifts all boats" and it fosters more diversity and creativity.

Amen and well said brother! As the prices climb well out of reach of most of the car crafters pockets.. they will diversify into uncharted waters.. and most likely find it a good experience. Breaking the mould and the cookie-cutter mentality is a good thing. I've had my share of Camaros... (67,69 NON Z/28... **chuckle..*, 78 real Z/28, and my 72 .. now gone.. ), but I'm ready to move on now and the alternatives are looking better all the time.  My current "alternative" is a 91 Caprice... lots of room and lots of fun too. (Bet ya can't get a perfect 69 camaro fender at a junkyard for 35 bucks!! ... ).

I agree with the guy who said put in the Vortec 4200 six from the Trailblazer. I don't know what those fancy cylinder heads for the Ford six will cost (Who knows, maybe they're a real bargain...), but look at the Vortec 4.2l sixes on eBay today (7th Sept):

2003   50K miles  Tennessee 200023165999  $1,100.00 Free Shipping
2003   95K km Ontario, Canada 170025516870 $650 buy it now plus shipping
2002 43k miles  Chicago, Illinois 150030052701 $600 buy it now plus shipping
2005 13k miles  Chicago, Illinois 150030402718 $1000 buy it now plus shipping
2005 310 miles (!) South Dakota 230026237503 $1650 buy it now plus shipping
2002 53k  South Dakota 230026240032 $750 buy it now plus shipping
2003 67k  South Dakota 230026240044 $850 buy it now plus shipping
2003 4 miles (!)  South Dakota 230026248566 $1450 buy it now plus shipping
2002 4 miles (!)  South Dakota 230026262047 $1600 buy it now plus shipping

And, how about a new 5-speed manual transmission to go with that:

170026808577 $500 buy it now + $100 shipping in US

It'd be a great opportunity to do a how-to on fabricating motor and transmission mounts.

Sweet deals on ebay and great food for thought! Now it appears the ideas are beginning to flow. That's a super deal on the trans too! Now someone needs to put one of these in a GM G, A or B-body or even in the (dare I say..) disco nova! I reckon you'd need the computer brain to run the injectors or will someone really be bold and create a regular carb manifold for one of these gems? How about a set of custom made headers too? Where are all the hardcore fabricators out there?

This needs to be brought up again, as it looks like CC is quietly gonna do the v-8 swap... What a let down it would be.. but then again, they won't be able to push as many "products" associated with the inline build-up as they would with the belly-button v-8 swap. The six build would be a real challenge and a real tribute to the old days... just my .02 cents...
