I am thinking about grabbing up a blazer here in Mexico and working on it some. Main use would be for camping and off road driving.

My concern is the 305 and the front and rear-ends, ratio..I have read many things about how bad a 305 is...but I am not looking for huge performance. I do want good low end usable torque but still have speeds for highway driving (60-70 mpg)

The guy is asking about 700 bucks for it, which I think is a good price, it has been sitting for over a year but the battery still turns the engine and the body is in pretty good shape. The interior is in awesome condition. (he had it redone to original specs 2 years ago) If there are things specific I need to look into before purchasing it, please tell me now

but I digress lol. Any thoughts or concerns please let me know. Any advice on how to maximize performance for what I expect to be using this for would be appreciated.

Thx,

Less of a Diesel, you have found a perfect torqe maker 4 economical means. Some 2" dual exhaust and a good tuneup the thing will pull anything the blazer can handle. Beyond those changes @ the high buck point, gears around 3.73 axle ratio ar nice if needed.

Thanks CLYDE1LS7, pretty much what I wanted to know and figured...

I have not rebuilt an engine in 15 or more years =) so I figure it will give me something to do for a bit this summer. Along with the minor body work and a modest lift if I can find one decently priced here.

I can not see myself pulling any thing, but climbing hills and grades to get where I like to camp will be a must here in about 6 months or so.

Take care all.

Another Question here...

Been looking online and I can not seem to find a good service manual for this blazer, any suggestions? DVD/CD based would be even better.
