I need some suggestion's, I just picked up a offenhauser triple duece intake with 3 stromberg 97 carb's. I would love to put this on my 388 stroker, for the nostalgic look but I know it will kill my power (or so I have been told). Right now I'm running a edelbrock performer intake with a 1 inch carb spacer and a 750 vac secondary holley, And I have not been able to find out much about the triple deuce setup as far as as carb flow rating's intke rating's ect.. Here are a few spec's on the motor if it will help eagle 383 rotating assymbly 5.7 rod, speed pro .250 dome piston's .60 over ,gm zz4 roller cam. 474" int,.510"exh, cat 1:65 ratio roller rocker's, #441 sbc heads fully ported, decked, 2.02 int, 1.60 exh, valves, 1 3/8 s10 conversion headers, compression ratio around 11:1+ -. Any help would be greatly appreciated

They mostly don't make as much power because people don't know how to set them up. It's going to be something that I have to re-learn, but I was taught how to do it once.
My old girlfriends Dad was an old school hot-rodder, and he had a '53 GMC pickup with a 283, double hump heads, and three duces (his were rockchester carbs). It made that little pickup stand up and take notice. I wouldn't race him and my car was fairly quick. He had it hooked up to a 3 speed overdrive tranny with a limited slip differential in the back. When he poured the coals to the foot feed, it sounded like the hood was getting sucked through the intakes. To this day I think he is still running the same setup (or he may have sold the truck).
I plan on running a three duce Pontiac on my '67 Catalina. For nostalgia, and for extra punch, and because I think they are flat cool. I know you can still find factory manuals on Ebay for setting up a three duce system (or sixpack). Even if you got one for one of the Ford or Mopar three duce systems, they would still give you the basics on tuning and setup.

If I remember right the trick to making power in this set-up is in the linkage. The middle carb should open first with the outside carbs acting like the back barrels on a 4 barrel. Otherwise you need to read a lot and find an old geezer that remembers when these thing were new. I remember the guy down the street had a GTO with a 389 and triple dueces and it flat screamed. I'd try and do it just to show it can be done. It probably won't work quite as well as a single four barrel but it will more than make up for it in coolness. Good luck. You may want to look at the local library for late 1960s or early 1970s car mags - they probably have something on this set-up. I'll try and talk to a engine builder friend of mine that may have some info. If so I'll pass it along.

Thank's guy's for the help so far. It would look awsome under the hood of my jimmy s15 and it ought to get better milage than this 750 holley does now. I'm just trying to find some info as to some air flow spec's cause when I start pulling thru the gears. I'll pull it till the rev limiter on my ignition is about to kick in which is 7500 rpm. I just love hearing it squal all 4 gears. I'm just afraid of a drasatic decrease in hp. But I will put it on and try it.Just waiting on the carb rebuild kit's to show up in the mail. Any info you can offer would be great. Thank's Joel

looking in the barry grant cataloge their six pack setup. The primary (centre carb) goes halfway then opens the other 2 carbs at the same time as secondarys i know his carbs and manifold are the latest and greatest but as a comparison they flow 250cfm each and made 13 more horse power and 12 ft pds more torque than his 650 demon carb you might find a picture of the linkage setup on his website www.barrygrant.com 100 horsepower per litre........i,ve got 1 litre per cylinder

I agree. You can't beat track proven reliability and durability. The 750 is a proven performer. Still, depending on the application, I would go with the sixpack. On my track ready Cutlass (?) - nooo way. On my Pontiac Catalina - yes and I mean yes. The three duce will dump more gas than the single 2 bbl, and will look great under the hood. Cammed properly, it ought to make that 3,800 pound beast go like crazy.
