Ok, first, change that quote with your name. No true car guy should ever quote anything from a Fast and the Furious movie!

Second, you can stuff a big block in a 3rd Gen F-body, but you basically have ot gut the engine compartment and kiss the A/C box good-bye.

The better way to go, if you want a lot of cubic inches, build a 454 cubic inch small block that'll fit in your car's engine compartment with no problem, and still make a ton of horsepower.

Thanks for the post do you have any ideas on transmissions? I either am going to go with a 400 turbo or a 2 speed powerglide i know i would have to beef up the poserglide but would the 400 turbo fit? or would i also have to crame it in? haha and ya i dont care about the A/C i live in South Dakota and ya it never gets hot enough for me to ever turn the A/C on up here haha

of course  you can stick a big clock in a third gen there might have to do some fabrication but its possibel i believe you might have to get custom headers to fight in there.

your tranny choice is going to depend on what you want the car to do. someone correct me if im wrong, but i heard that a powerglide robs less power from the motor to operate than a th400. however, that probably won't do any good unless you're at the strip. if you want to drive it more than race it, then i would go with the 400. i don't have much knowledge on bbc, but just wait, the guys with the knowledge will be able to shed more light on the subject. 55's right about gutting the engine bay. i end with this, anything is possible with the right parts, tools, a little imagination, and a lot of desire

Try this:

Have fun and by the way there is an 85 Camaro on ebay right now for sale in Chicago area with a 406 bbc in it. The bid is at $750.00 with two days to go and no reserve. Buy that and keep your TA stock.

wow.....you switched from a BBC to one of the 400's....I hope you're not planning on stroking it
and the th350's not bad, I used to have one in an elky before we swapped in a BB. Good Luck to you on your project!

Projects: '79 Camaro 350/350, '72 Challenger Rallye 340 (the Green Slug!) which is currently sleeping in the snow :-(

I have run a lot of small block chevies.  They are great, I mean you punch it, and the sensation is; "Wow, what a cool sound, and I think I am going fast too."
To me the difference between a BBC and a SBC is this: with a BBC you look for a long stretch of open road and punch it; then you have to let off almost immediately, because you already have a new road to examine.  Scary-fast.
I switched to Big Block Chevies and I will let you know because I am installing a 496 with a premium rotating assembly, and nitrous into my 1992 Firebird.
My 305 did a 16.61 ET shifting at 5500rpm.  So, I know what you are going through.
Friends of mine run 350's, and they are a little faster, but a lot more exciting.  They also have traction problems on all but the slicks.
Welding your own headers seems like the best approach.  You will also need a full roll cage, rearend and frame ties, so get good with a welder.
A 350 tranny that has a cooler and a shift kit will hold the power.  For traction you will need DOT slicks.
If you find, like I have that the 400 has a great sound, but sucks; then a BBC can be purchased from a junkyard and rebuilt sometimes for as little as $1500.
If you build a stock BBC the block weighs only about a hundred pounds more than a SBC. So, aluminum heads, water pump and manifold can help the weight issue a lot.  Use a .500 to.550 cam kit. I have run stock 3/8" rods at every rpm up to 6300 rpm; then the power snapped them.  I would rev limit them at 5500 or so, with oval port heads, if you are on a budget.
Use a Sawzall  and modify the fuel tank for at least a half inch line.
If you have a BBC, I would sell that 400 to someone who thinks they are fast and dependable, and use the BBC.  That is just me.

This can be done easily.  You basically just need to do a lot of gutting.  Once that is done you will need to move the firewall back and either take the wheel wells out or put in some thin ones from summit racing.  This has been done many times and is a great combo just make sure you know what you are doing and make sure you have all the tools and a clean workspace to do it.
